New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

Here is an excellent video debunking the myth of the Bible being the infallible Word of God.

A dishonest mod at /christian/ deleted it because they are threatened by the truth, and I say this as someone who believes in God and Jesus.

dc9e5a No.4744

They should just rename that board to /salt/.

It's not showing up on their ban log. I think they're doing more thread deleting and less ban + deleting to be more subtle about moderation lately.

can we also talk about the new concept of "consern trolling" invented by islam to shut down child sex trafficking in the muslim world or are we only going to talk about /christian/ modern

Learn how to fucking type. It tries my patience to look at your posts. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if you became the first person to be banned from Atheism. Apart from the logical idiocy, what you wrote looks like bot spam at first sight.

Then again a ban might be what you want, 'cas in your mind that'd show we're all hypocrites for whining about being banned on /christian/, since we banned a 13 year old who can't type right? If you like being here, spell check and read your post twice before your submit it. You should uphold the bare minimum of internet etiquette.

There's a thread for anti Islam talk but you were there defending Islamic countries of all things.

9b0448 No.4808

>>4805
that's because you are confused and think that being anti islam is excusing everything bad islam does as a product of cuture or nation or something other than Islam and decide not to hear or follow arguments that counter that

9b0448 No.4824

so /atheism/ has taken entirely to responding in ad hominem. I think it's particularly hurtful to you guys when anything negative is said about Islam. I'll try and tip toe around the issue to be kinder, I apologize for my remarks about them condining child sex trafficking and attempting to stifle discussion on that issue. It's much more important that we discuss how your video was deleted.

I mean really who cares about child sex trafficking, who cares about honor killings, subjegation of women, jihad and the whole of other things. Really that stuff is not islam right, that's national circumstances as this board has agreed and saying otherwise apparently is defending islam.

The important thing is attacking those guys who believe that the bible is the inerrant word of god and demanding discussion on that issue. Fuck me!

many atheists keep demanding to know why you deserve hell, well there it is, you have your answer. Because you don't give a shit about what's important, you don't give a shit about protecting children, you don't give a shit about the important issues in the world, you want to focus on shit like this. I hope there is no further doubt on the issue of hell and whether it is deserved

Different authors changed parts of the gospels and you can figure out what they changed by looking at the context. Here is an example from "Misquoting Jesus" by Bart Erhman from the section titled "Textual Alterations Involving Women."

*** Scholars are convinced that Paul did not write the 1 Timothy passage because it occurs in a letter that appears to have been written instead by a 2nd generation follower of Paul in his name. No one doubts however that Paul wrote 1 Corinthians. But there are doubts about this passage. For it turns out, the verse in question (34-35) are shuffled about in some of our important textual witnesses. In three Greek manuscripts and a couple of Latin witnesses they are found not here after verse 33 but after verse 40. That has led some scholars to surmise the verses were not written by Paul but originated as a kind of marginal note added by a scribe, possibly under the influence of 1 Timothy 2. The note was then inserted in different places of the text by various scribes, some placing the note after 33 and others after verse 40.

There are good reasons for thinking that Paul did not originally write these verses. For one thing, they do not fit well into their immediate context. In this part of 1 Corinthians 14 Paul is addressing the issue of prophecy in the church and is giving instructions to Christian prophets concerning how they are to behave during the Christian services of worship. This is the theme of verse 25-33, and it is the theme again of verses 36-40. If one removes the verses 34-35 from their context, the passage seems to flow seamlessly as a discussion of the role of Christian prophets. The discussion of women appears, then, as intrusive in its immediate context, breaking into instructions that Paul is giving about a different matter.

Not only do the verses seem instructive in the context, but they also appear anomalous with what Paul explicitly says elsewhere in 1 Corinthians. For earlier in the book Paul gives instructions to how Christian women should pray, with veils on their heads (11:2-16.) In this passage which no one disputes that Paul wrote it is clear that Paul understands that women both can and do speak in church. In the disputed passage of chapter 14 however, it is equally clear that "Paul" forbids women from speaking at all. It is difficult to reconcile those two views, and unreasonable to think he would contradict himself within such a short period of time.

But noone says the Bible is the infallible word of god except fucking illiterate American protestants.

However, the infallibility of the Quran (which is supposed to be the word of God transmitted to Muhammad through Archangel Gabriel) is an important part of the Muslim dogma (even if the Mutazili says it was written by man, but they are a minority). That's why the Quran hasn't changed since the third caliph (who actually wrote the Quran from various oral sources).

And I have never seen any documentary debunking that myth. There should be one imo.

69779d No.7555

>>7552

Most christian apologists say the bible is the infallible word of god. If there is anything we perceive to be inconsistent or inaccurate it is only because we do not understand it properly.

This is why many biblical scholars spend decades, literally, interpreting and extrapolating the meaning from fables that are mostly written in very plain and straightforward language. Although not a christian, I remember specifically a jewish woman stating that the true meaning behind the first two commandments was to reinforce the notion that there are things more important than yourself.

fd80ac No.7556

>>7555

The Genesis and such are fairytales with morals, according to Catholics. I remember in Religulous, Bill Maher interviewed a Catholic priest in the Vatican, and he said the Bible has been written by dozens of people along centuries and it has no historical value and lots of contradictions.

69779d No.7557

>>7556

>it has no historical value and lots of contradictions.

That's the most reasonable viewpoint to have. But there are many people who posit that scripture can be proven with scripture. I think this is mainly due to the fact that cosmological arguments can only go so far to prove that there is an unknown force if the assumptions of said arguments are true. It says nothing of a personal god, much less the christian one. Stretching logic to its limits, they have to somehow prove that the bible or whatever holy book has significant truth or meaning.

I've kind of gone astray with my original point I'm just saying that christians can be just as guilty of this sort of thing.
