>>5861>The thoughts of a person don't matter. What matters is the argument they put forth. This is what leads to someone dismissing them based on their identity.Chiming in myself, the main reason I support ID's is exactly because many people don't respect this (usually with a good reason). You might respect this, but that doesn't stop many other people from trying to guess who's who. Complete anonymous can work out for some boards, but when the shitposters arrive en masse, it gets pretty fucking messy. It gets worse when you have the "if you don't agree with everything I say you're a shill" types.
The worst part is when that happens, the point of point of judging by argument instead of poster becomes invalid, but everything is even worse off because people try to guess who's who and string things said by different people into their perceived one person, and when that happens, shit can hit the fan and a thread can quickly devolve into unneeded shitflinging fast. For a board like atheism that can be both serious and silly, this isn't always good thing. Especially when people are looking for posts by a certain possibly perceived person in multiple threads.
Can people get behind proxies and still fuck with everyone? Sure, but you'll still be able to see what IP's make the same posts.
