I like board IDs, the complaints that them don't make you anonymous are stupid. Also a post shouldn't necessarily be read on it's own, when it's related to the thread and you argue, you need to read the full thought of the person who you are debating with.

The thoughts of a person don't matter. What matters is the argument they put forth. This is what leads to someone dismissing them based on their identity.

The thoughts of a person are his arguments, this is the point of text basically, to express your thoughts, which are your arguments.

And the arguments, they may link each other between several posts. You can prove yourself right in more posts with evidence and arguments, and not necessarily a single post as many believe. Also, you can also prove yourself wrong if you say a contradicting post.

If you say in a post that god is full with love, and in another post that god likes to make deformed people your posts contradict and you need to point that out as it's not rational thinking. When you debate to a person, you can't say that the debate is futile because all the thoughts of the person link each other.

Or maybe you have a bias against IDs. If your theory would be true, that IDs "create a personality and objective arguments can't be held" then no one should ever speak with another human again in a debate, after all, if they said something previously they made a personality.

It's no less anonymous. The IDs are even different between threads. It's only to tell apart each other *while still anonymous*.

Chiming in myself, the main reason I support ID's is exactly because many people don't respect this (usually with a good reason). You might respect this, but that doesn't stop many other people from trying to guess who's who. Complete anonymous can work out for some boards, but when the shitposters arrive en masse, it gets pretty fucking messy. It gets worse when you have the "if you don't agree with everything I say you're a shill" types.

The worst part is when that happens, the point of point of judging by argument instead of poster becomes invalid, but everything is even worse off because people try to guess who's who and string things said by different people into their perceived one person, and when that happens, shit can hit the fan and a thread can quickly devolve into unneeded shitflinging fast. For a board like atheism that can be both serious and silly, this isn't always good thing. Especially when people are looking for posts by a certain possibly perceived person in multiple threads.

Can people get behind proxies and still fuck with everyone? Sure, but you'll still be able to see what IP's make the same posts.

Well it's been more than 2 weeks, and it seems most of the the people who didn't want ID's left instead of speaking up about it…

I'm gonna unsticky this so people can have a last say in all of this, since I heavily doubt turning shit off again is going to make these people come back and voice their opposition to this.
