New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

>THE CHURCH SETS VERY HIGH SCIENTIFIC STANDARDS FOR THE APPROVAL OF MIRACLES

26fc10 No.6279

like when the shroud of Turin was independently shown by 3 recognised laboratories to have been fabricated in the 15th century and the Church immediately stopped allowing further research on it and started to shill alternative unscientific explanations in their media?

I still see preachers and catholic spokesmen passionately defending pseudo-scientific explanations about the Shroud of Turin to this day. People talking about modern patches and other desperate excuses, and they present these ideas as actual science. I guess they fucked up royally when it occurred to them that opening to proper research was a good idea, I guess they were actually convinced that it was authentic or something.

In any case I would like to see more proper research than just debunking its age, like testing the Renaissance photograph hypothesis looking for silver or any other photo-reactive chemical on it, which I think is one of the most plausible explanations for the origin of the image, which by fucking common sense can't be a mortuary shroud given that there's no blood and that the image is a clear projection over a plane and not a wrapper of a human image (actually probably two separate images because the proportions of the head don't correspond to those of the body).

Trying to impress the religiousfags with pseudo-science or educated remarks by one or two scientists that get further derailed and distorted to make the faith in question sound like a scientific fact makes me feel mad.

>A DECLARATION OF SOME ABNORMAL EVIDENCE BY A FEW POSSIBLY SELECTED AND BIASED RESEARCHERS WHO HAPPEN TO BE AFFILIATED TO THE SAME RELIGION IS CLEAR INDICATION THAT THE EVENTS ARE SUPERNATURAL, AND THAT THEY COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED BY CHANCE, AND THAT THEY WERE AUTHORED BY A GOD, AND THAT IT WAS SPECIFICALLY THEIR GOD AND THAT THEREFOR THEIRS IS THE TRUE GOD AND TRUE RELIGION. SURE

>WHEN SOMETHING STRANGE HAPPENS IT IS EITHER THE WORK OF GOD OR THE DEVIL, DEPENDING ON WHETHER IT MAKES PEOPLE THINK MY RELIGION IS TRUE OR NOT. NATURAL SPOOKY EVENTS HOWEVER ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EXIST, FOR I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DISTINGUISH THEM FROM MUH MIRACLES
