New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

So i'm typically browse 4chan but today I decided to see what 8chan was.

I stumbled up /christian/ thinking it was a troll board only to realize it's apparently serious.

I was then told there's tons of documented miracles and that since the catholic church developed the big bang theory, helped understand genetics, etc. that means that they obviously know what they're talking about. Then was laughed at when I brought up the fact it's a mythology. How the FUCK can you possibly hold that opinion with all the information available to us?

TLDR; Please tell me how the fuck it's phsyically possible to regularly browse the internet and still believe in fairytales.

Depends how old you are. If it is introduced at an early age and you go to church every week and hang with Christians it's hard to shake it. It took me until my early twenties to finally bury it.

And it wasn't the internet that made me Atheist, although porn convincing me such sin is natural was an early thing. You younger folk who used the internet for religious things would find the truth faster I hope. Cant understand how chans remain full of christians myself tho.

Those people just don't want the hard cold truth and they delude themselves that they have some purpose and they have to do magic rituals to please their sky men. They've done this for probably decades, if they haven't changed their mind by now, they never will.

I don't know how people don't know how to be good without the fear of hell and holy rules, or why they can't appreciate nature as it is. I don't know what to tell you OP, I honestly don't know how it's possible in 2015 with all the information available to us to believe in stuff like that, but sadly here we are.

My only explanation is group mentality and fear of death probably.

Willful ignorance, also known as stupidity. The simple and most basic answer is that regardless of how they age, they're still children inside.

Hello 4chan user, I'll give you the run down as to why /christian/ is a thing.

A lot of people who migrated here came from /pol/, and most of the /pol/acks who stayed were the most extreme nutty ones. Naturally these are the ones who believe in National Socialism + Orthodox Christianity and wont listen to differing opinions because they are full of themselves. So christian within a span of months rose to the top, and /atheism/ remains lower down because the rest of 8chan doesn't care about religion. Some more liberal christians made some spinoff boards, but they weren't very successful because the majority of christian is fine with the boards shit moderation.

All the liberals made /leftypol/, and the libertarians who were sick of /pol/s shit made /liberty/, so the political spectrum is a bit screwy around here.

Well, on the Internet vocal Christians definitely are a counter culture.

If you have authoritarian parents who condition you to accept ideas a priori (i.e. "because I said so") it's pretty easy to fall into that trap no matter how smart you are.

Check out the mental gymnastics they're running to justify how bread literally turns into Christ's flesh when you eat it.

>>>christianity/70084

My favorite post:

"Because Jesus is LITERALLY a door and a vine and bread.

"I am the bread of life," (John 6:48); "I am the door," (John 10:7,9); "I am the resurrection and the life," (John 11:25); "I am the true vine," (John 15:1)"

>The idea of transubstantiation is that by all outward appearances there remains only blood and wine, but by faith we know that it is the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

>literally letting faith override all perception and reason

>this is a routine part of catholic worship

arrogance is a symptom of ignorance.

I like to imagine a priest vomitting blood and bits of flesh in front of a congregation, and devoted nuns running to collect his blood samples as evidence. Back then the requirements people had for miracles was lower.

dccc25 No.7430

I don't understand why the bread and wine can't just represent the body and blood of christ and they can't just get spiritual meaning out of that.

Insisting that it spiritually/kind of literally or whatever the fuck actually becomes flesh and blood seems a bit insane.

Because it's spooky and magical and it means that Catholicism is the one true religion!
