New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

The line between fetus and developed human is a bit blurry considering early and late births. There must be some instance where the fetus is developed enough to be born and some lag phase until the mother's body recognizes this and gives birth.

So my question is at what point is it murder? I'd say when the fetus has those developed features necessary to exist outside the womb.

I am pro abortion and eugenics. If you fail to kill a baby that doesn't have a good shot at life before it is born, you can be allowed to still kill it. At least for a few weeks after it is born.

When do fetuses become aware or when do their sensory systems usually develop and they can feel pain? Serious question, I'm not familiar what happens at what trimester.

Still, anytime before both those conditions is morally sound in my opinion.

That's a really bad argument. It wouldn't be morally permissible to kill an adult just because they were incapable of feeling pain. If someone was unconscious and you could guarantee a painless death, it would still be wrong to kill them.

That's because they are capable of expressing the desire to live and understand death enough to make their own decision. What do you care anyway? They're going straight to heaven.

I'm okay with abortion before the 4th month mark. However I wish people would stop feeling like they are entitled to this babies life because somehow it's their body instead of the real answer being a parasite inside of their body. It may be sucking the nutrients out of your body and will be your future responsibility, but it's not like it had a choice in the matter.

Therefor all these people who want abortion after 3 months can go fuck themselves. I personally don't believe in eugenics, but I do believe in allowing science to decide how a baby will be born.

That should be up for doctor to decide with the person who's going to have an abortion. I don't think any kind of religious or ideological zealot should shoehorn their morality in between it, as 9 out of 10 'moralists' in this debate will never have one and are just in this debate to pat themselves on the back

I think we should subsidize abortions so it's easy for people to get them. Poor people have the hardest time of any demographic with family planning, and having more kids leads to not only increasing the burden on themselves, but to making more poor people. Fix poverty by making abortions legal, safe, and available. But also do the same with other forms of contraception. Obviously it's best not to get preggo in the first place.

>at what point is it murder?

When it becomes a person. That's a whole philosophical debate but I don't think that happens until the age of reason at ~7. Just because it's not murder doesn't mean it's OK though. If I had to put a number on it, I'd say ask an embryologist and maybe a neuroscientist or psychologist as far as what it can experience. If you put a gun to my head and demanded a number I'd say fuck you I just don't know the answer; if you're going to kill me over that, it's your choice.

I don't see anything wrong with it. There's a difference between losing your essay and a blank word document.

>at what point is it murder?

A common misconception is that murder means "the act of a person killing another person". This is not true. Murder means "the unjustified or unlawful killing of another human being."

So, at what point does it become murder? When you've broken the law, of course.
