Catholics say the bible is not inerrant. Then when you point out a problem with God they ask if you can understand God when you are but an ant, and he works in mysterious ways. Then they tell you to read Job where God browbeats a primitive goat herder by asking him to explain lightning and stuff.

We don't say that. We say that literalist historicism is not the only possible hermeneutic for deriving truth from the Bible, a position which the Church has held going all the way back to the Church Fathers, and even in the NT, Peter employs Noah's Ark allegorically in one of his epistles.

Interpreting portions of the Bible allegorically is *not* a modern adaptation that the Church has made to "accommodate" scientific discoveries, as secularists like to assert. It's something that has always been done going back to late antiquity.

I don't get the whole bullshit scare of playing God to begin with. Humanity alters nature to serve humanity. Nature alters nature to serve itself, often times in spite of humanity. That being said, giving humans a chance behind the wheel of genetics and whatnot seems like the better option.

unlike with nature there's controlled experiments, corrections, regulations, and most importantly of all, actual intelligence behind what's being done.

When scientists get all pissy that their cell culture isn't blindly worshipping them and decide to drown everything, then I'll say they're playing God.
