New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

What would make atheists believe in God?

de6498 No.8213

Proof.

4e761b No.8215

Evidence?

Some solid hints would be enough for me.

I still wouldn't follow the rules because they are not very moral.

Btw, Michael Ende hated the movie, so he let his name get removed from the end credits.

f63438 No.8218

Because he is an idiot. The fist movie is a classic.

Stephen King hated Shining for the same reason:

All these changes, muh vision.

An event that couldn't be reasonably explained through natural occurrences followed by God proclaiming his existence.

Just write out a bible verse on the moon or something for all the world to see.

>>8219

Maybe some billionair could do that in a few years.

0015ee No.8226

A set definition of God that is shown to be consistent with reality through evidence. This proposition needs to be testable, falsifiable and repeatable by anyone, regardless of whether they believe in it or not

Multiple agreeing visions shared by all of humanity, followed by a booming voice from the heavens. Then God would manifest himself im a visible form and give a few interviews where he would explain his rationale, and impress us with his wisdom by presenting things we had not advanced enough to think of, but which made sense. He would also continue to umambiguously appear to ensure his message was not corrupted or misunderstood in later, more forgetful generations. That is what I would do if I wanted to prove my existence and benevolance beyond reasonable doubt to a species with minimal effort.

Hey guys, guys, listen, I have a joke.

>Do you know what is the problem with having an atheist girlfriend?

>If you tell her she's a goddess, she disappears.

It's so funny I am laughing at my own joke right now. Feel free to tell me my joke is funny, because it's really, really funny.

>>If you tell her she's a goddess, she disappears.

She just doesn't believe in herself anymore.

df50dc No.8254

>>8248

I don't get it.

>>8250

This version is better.

Evidence. Specifically, evidence that a god existing was more probable than a god not existing.

what god OP? god is one of the most ambiguous words I have seen in my entire life.

The evidence to show that god exists would depend in how you define god

df50dc No.8294

>>8293

Ah, so you're an ignostic atheist? A rare breed. It's nice to have you here.

Dying (I mean dying for real, not just a near death experience) and meeting God in the afterlife. In fact, probably just having an afterlife might be enough because it's so contrary to everything we know about nature I would have to consider it supernatural and once I accept that, gods wouldn't seem nearly as far-fetched. If there is an afterlife waiting for me then this is bound to happen eventually, so I'll definitely be able to correct my mistake.

Of course I know what Christians would say to this, that you go hell unless you accept Jesus before you die, because changing your mind afterwards is against God's inexplicably arbitrary rules. I'll take my chances.

Also these would work.
