New to this board and want to know the rules? Have a question for atheists? Then you should probably read the FAQ (Updated: 3/19/15). It's not necessary, but don't be surprised if people ignore you if you don't elaborate further on a question already answered here, or the moderator does something you didn't expect.

Out of curiousity, what political group do you allign with?

Seeing the answers to this thread has me curious:

>>9243

Many of you guys don't seem to agree with /pol/ or /leftypol/ (which isn't really a hard feat really) so what are you guys? Libertarian? From the sound of that political poll we had a while back a lot of you seem to lean to the left so it doesn't sound like many of you would be the capitalist type of libertarian. Im someone who's kindof figuring out politics and where I stand, so some insight would be great.

cc9864 No.9268

I don't like any of those labels honestly, I have my own opinions that contradict each of those political groups, and agree to some of them. If I say that I agree with some points of a group then someone labels be and thinks that I agree with everything from there.

It's easier to call myself an atheist, the definition is just the disbelief in gods, but political groups? They believe way to many things to fully agree with any.

I think the world would be better with just not bullshit laws in the first place.

Don't really like to attach myself to any particular ideology, but my views can mostly be seen as libertarian-right in nature.

The only sensible political ideology that exists. With some libertarian sympathies.

Just about everything revolving around technocracy seems to be limited to stuff from decades ago.

However I do think politics should start yielding to science. There's too much "We can vote on it" and not enough "No you can't. This is something that's actually not based on democracy. You can't overturn reality based on majority rule now sit down and deal with evolution/climate change/vaccinations/whatever and shut the fuck up."

>Just about everything revolving around technocracy seems to be limited to stuff from decades ago.

The movement dug itself into the ground. But implementation of it would be a substantial improvement for any government. Democracy as it's established has the flaw of allowing 2 idiots to outvote a genius all else being equal.

I like the defunct American Progressive party. It had a populist agenda, combined rational arguments with good intentions, and had their movement survived it might have fostered direct democracy.

I'm more of a liberal on social issues. It's said that 'All truth passes through 3 stages,' and when I study history I'm inclined to believe that whatever encounters the heaviest resistance today is likely to be accepted as common sense tomorrow. It's impossible not to be somewhat blinded by the spirit of one's time. But I still try to keep an open mind when I hear ideas that haven't been fully developed and articulated, because I want a glimpse of what the future will hold after I'm dead.

I feel that a history of risks and experimentation, will guide us to a better model of governance. That's an important job for historians.

I'll give a special shout out to Sparta and Athens for having fascinatingly unique governments and cultures, which have probably not been replicated anywhere else. A little reading on them and the timeless rivalry between the oligarchy and the democratic state can keep your mind occupied for days.

The Pericles Funeral Oration is a beautiful place to start. His speech was a defense of Athenian democracy and her values during the Peleponesian war. (Abraham Lincoln copied it at Gettysburg.)

I tend to oscillate between anarcho-primitive extinctionism and post-scarcity transhumanist technocracy.

>>9285

How exactly has it dug itself into the ground?

70032b No.9309

>>9308

The original movement made many predictions in an attempt to sell itself as urgently needed to prevent societal collapse. Those never came to pass so people associated the error of those doomsday prophecies with the ideology and the movement died till more recently.

It was a fairly major setback at the very least. Not to mention it makes promotion of the idea more difficult as it's now necessary to point out that the initial movement is not representative of all technocracy and that their blunder doesn't invalidate technocracy in of itself.

91c349 No.9341

I don't. I form my own opinions based on evidence and ideas I find and I talk to differently-minded people to acquire more. Aligning with anyone politically for any reason but to achieve a political goal is just masturbation.

Democratic socialist, and while I understand the need for a state, I am very critical and wary of it, or really any collection of power in the hands of a few, whether that be political influence or military might or money.

Has anyone noticed the level of Trump shilling on /pol/? Shit's getting really annoying

Isn't pol conservative bent though? It makes sense.

774904 No.9831

It does now. /pol/ doesn't like to admit it, but the Christians have invaded and drove out all the atheists that created /pol/. Now, /pol/ sucks Israels cock. That was the reason that /pol/ hated Jews in the first place.
