I reckon the reason why we don't want to invest in this community is because it can't offer us anything to invest in. It's not universally the case.

GenY includes people born in like 1984 who finished uni well before the GFC.

I fucked up my life because reasons, but I was born a few years after that and most people I went to school with are doing okay - anyone who got onto a career track before 2012 or so is okay (but probably won't be buying a house). Doors started slamming shut around then though, depending on industry and location.

Basically,

1983-85 = generally fine, more in common with older GenX

1985-92 = generally okay

1992 or so on = generally more fucked

In the middle case it depended on whether you got 'in' during the post GFC recovery, which ran from about 2010 to late 2011 and started running out of steam after that.

But if you were in the middle and had a couple of setbacks and weren't in a 'good' job by the end of 2012 you generally ended up locked out.

That's what I've seen as far as my friends go.

Don't think you can get by with apprenticeships and trades either - we're getting into a free trade deal with China which lets companies employee chongs fresh off the boat WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM AT ALL.

The reason you get decent wages at the end of the apprenticeship programs is that those programs narrow down the field of potential employees (and make sure that they know what they're doing, too). That's being blown the fuck out by the new trade deal, and there are already tons of tradies losing their job so some penny-pinching cunt gets an extra bonus.
