I think that shows guns are easy to get on the black market, which means making guns generally illegal means generally only criminals have access to guns. Law abiding people generally wont have guns the worst possible situation.

I the UK guns were greatly restricted after 1997(?) after ward the homicide rate went up , many crooks chose to use knives instead of guns.
It really doesn't matter what you ban, because people kill people. And people are creative, there are a hundred things in your house right now that could be used to kill.
before there were guns the strong, healthy and skilled always had the edge in killing other people. So many people chose to become tyrants and bully/rape/steal from the weak.
guns disrupted all of this, guns allowed weak people with very little skill fight back.
A 12 year old girl with a .22 revolver could easily kill a potential attacker if she have the presence of mind to point and shoot.
