She isn't completely damaged goods but she's certainly in a spiral. She has a way of using friends (like yours truely) for financial gain/feeding her booze addiction.
Like for example: We moved in together some 3 years ago (I regret this) to a two bedroom apartment. She did have a little bit of money coming her way (she told me she was working part time and could afford the weekly rent). After constant delays of payment to myself as I was covering pretty much everything, she told me that she isn't getting anything as she is on welfare (she always was) and couldn't afford the rent. I, at that point, could have almost punched her. Told her to get a job - even if she has to shake her ass (oh god why did I say that, oh wait I was angry – and impoverished).
She did, she got money, payed rent and I was content for a time.
As time went on I saw that she wasn't going to get better. She was held down by a family friend (physically) at one point during her stay with me (this happened at the family friend's family home) and - I hate using this term - Almost raped her.
It was for real, I could tell as I had been her friend since we were in year 1 of primary school. Her laugh changed from that of a girly girl to that of gollum (LOTR) type laugh - Gutteral.
All these things fed her dispair: that she was approaching 30 in a few years, a parade of shit boyfriends, her only income is flashing her tits/ass (some times she'd get propositioned by japanese salarymen, for like $3000) and the booze was her only real crutch for it all.
I wont go on but as you can see - life can really fuck you up if you allow yourself to fall into the cracks of modern living.
