They are both able to run for Parliament/President with utter disregard for what is goodthink. Since they are self-funded they are able to get into politics without licking boots and are able to hold true to their ideals instead of being either a puppet or inconsequential like everybody else.

That was a tactic that only worked during campaigning though. After PUP got a few seats and had to do actual political work, the "lol lets watch the world burn" idea didn't achieve anything, and the party disintegrated.

Considering how close America and Australia are, then yes, it does concern us a whole lot more than what you think. The TPP is a shit deal for Australia, and guess which Presidential candidate opposes it?

Also, it would be nice if Australia stopped getting dragged into the Middle East and just stayed away altogether - Trump opposes pointless, unwinnable wars there.

The guy isn't a saint, but he's by far the best candidate for America, and it wouldn't be such a bad thing if Australia had a leader in a similar vein.
