"patriarchal terrorism" fostered the infamous, rape culture. Rape culture being, as defined by mainstream feminist, as being "a complex set of beliefs that encourage male sexual aggression and supports violence against women. It is a society where violence is seen as sexy and sexuality as violent. In a rape culture, women perceive a continuum of threatened violence that ranges from sexual remarks to sexual touching to rape itself. A rape culture condones physical and emotional terrorism against women as the norm . . . In a rape culture both men and women assume that sexual violence is a fact of life, inevitable . . . However . . . much of what we accept as inevitable is in fact the expression of values and attitudes that can change. "
Now. how the fuck do we live in a rape culture where raping women is a societal norm when we have always taken the rape and abuse of women very seriously. All throughout history this has been the case. Obviously we do not live in a rape culture. Never have under patriarchy. If rape of women was condoned throughout history why does rape make its appearance in religious dogma as being a sin? If its accepted and condoned why would it be looked down upon by ancient society?
Question: "What does the Bible say about rape?"
Answer: The Bible does address the issue of rape. As expected, when the Bible mentions the crime of rape, it is depicted as a gross violation of God’s design for the treatment of the human body (Genesis 34). The Bible condemns rape whenever it is mentioned. For example, there is a particular passage in the laws given to the nation of Israel before entering the Promised Land under Joshua’s leadership. This passage (Deuteronomy 22:13-29) spoke directly against forcing a woman into a sexual encounter against her will, or what we know today as rape. This command was meant to protect women and to protect the nation of Israel from committing sinful actions.
