/b2/ is the best way better than halfchan

the one and ONLY thing that sucks about 8ch is the "blue" boards, the kind that shared interest without being shit like /ic/,/o/,/diy/

they are all dead

im making a large assumption here but im pretty sure some of you would like to learn some skills in a community with like minded individuals

how do we fix this

tl;dr

>i want to learn skills with others

 No.134987

The problem is 8chan has no kind of board discovery system. The shit at the top might as well be random boards and are seldom relevant and are usually dead. Codemonkey can’t implement a recommendation system either because that would require tracking cookies and that’s against the sites core principles. The front page results aren’t really a good board discovery system either because the ‘quality boards’ are usually carried by a single autist on a board that’s posting on a board with a more general topic anyways like /b/. It’s trash. The overboard is also way too heavily weighted towards already established popular boards as well and doesn’t help with board discovery either

There are so many fucking dead boards here it's ridiculous. Typically any you discover you might have an interest in get 1 or 2 posts a day if you're lucky, in threads that are years old. Multiples of essentially the same damn board too with fewer posters or none at all.

Best bet honestly is threads on it on a board like this that's "hip" and "rad" and "with it" right now that most heavy 8chers flock to.

 No.135039

People have been asking this question for years. Between 1st exodus and the reddit exodus, the whole "board creation" system felt like a novelty and people played with it. In those days, there were a ton of somewhat active boards and people would share their boards (and boards they supposedly found through digging but we all secretly knew it was the BO making said posts). Hell, even >>>/tex/ had its hayday as the default shitposting board. But the novelty wore off and we were stuck with a pile of boards that are just sitting there doing nothing.

There used to be a "board of the week" system, and that helped garner short term attention for small boards even after the week ended, but that went by the wayside years ago. It probably wouldn't help much these days anyway.

What needs to change is not the site functionality, but board culture.

 No.135080

>>135039

>board culture

To specific. The trascience of attention, and the every dispersing of people is a more general issue. It's sort of like space. Shit sites like twitter, FB, etc. are like black holes, were as all other websites may start with uses but, over time, drift apart as the universe does.

Yes, yes it is. All of the data on 8ch was wiped in 2017. Those "power levels" were the order boards would be restored at.

 No.135124

>>134957

My recommendation would be to make the board as general as possible if you want it to succeed. That doesn't mean you have to allow shitposting, but you might have to keep topics pretty open. Too many boards on this site are dead not because they are a bad idea, but because they are just too niche to justify posting on.

>>135026

>Multiples of essentially the same damn board too with fewer posters or none at all.

I noticed this the other day with /leo/ and /1piece/. Both boards are for one pieces, but one is geared toward dancewear, the other towards swimsuits. There's no sensible reason why there should be two when it's such a niche topic in the first place.

>>135039

>There used to be a "board of the week" system, and that helped garner short term attention for small boards even after the week ended, but that went by the wayside years ago.

We still have the attention hungry games, but like you say, short-term attention.

 No.135138

>>135124

>There's no sensible reason why there should be two when it's such a niche topic in the first place

Desperately needs to be some dead/dying/glacially slow board merges of those kinds.

Never makes any sense to me on other graveyard chans for them to make more than one board when their most active one is like 1pph at best. Everybody wants to start one & they immediately try to make more or less a cuck or 8 copypasta level clone before they've even got 10 active users.

 No.135141

>>135124

>the attention hungry games

Kinda a joke compared to when board of the week was a thing (attention hungry games came long after board of the week died, by the way). Back then, just about anyone who was interested in the topic that the board of the week was about would go there. Now, it seems like most people have settled in to their favorite few boards and kinda ignore all the others.

 No.135149

I disagree in principle OP. The problem isn't niche topics, they are after all by definition, niche. The chief problem is immature people such as yourself who feel the need to be entertained at every hand. Find some interests you can be passionate about, look around for a board already on-topic and 'boot. Basically be the future you imagine OP. If you create something interesting and stick with it, eventually others will follow suit.

Or, alternatively, you can just squat here on the official shitposting board and complain all day. If you want to be a normalfag anon, then >>>/lebbit/ is waiting. Just do a 360.

That's the argument that was being made back when the problem was half as bad as it is now. While yes, it's good advice. But everyone has to follow it for it to work. There was a time when you could post a new board on /b/, get bumped by people calling you a faggot 5 times, and have a handful of new users on that board. Try that shit now and you'll get called a faggot by people saging your thread and not one single person will post on said board.

Shit's changed; it really has.

Call me a glass half empty kind of guy but this hasn't been my experience with 8chan. There's loads of small boards that have way more interesting new, fresh concepts that are completely dead. The top boards by far are for whining about jews and circlejerking about games you remember from your childhood, hardly the pinnacle of creativity.

The most recent success of a new board was /doomer/ which is basically just /r9k/ for people who feel they are too cool for /r9k/.

>>135177

This would be nice, but something more active would be good too. I'd like to see an 8chan rejuvenation project of sorts. Maybe we can all make a conscious decision to go post on one board for a while to kickstart it.

That'd be great but how would we go about doing it? I honestly get the feeling the site admins don't really give a shit anymore, and as others pointed out some suggestions would go against the privacy of users. I don't think it's impossible as halfchan is still a fairly popular site, maybe we need another big long lasting event like gg again?

 No.135222

>Post on those boards?

Some are dead as in, 0 users dead. So short of a group effort you'd be posting alone.

I love the nerve center, I just wish you could have more than 8 boards on it.

>>135211

Terrible idea to be honest, Gamergate and the Election brought in so many cancerous users it's not even funny. I think just advertising other boards on /b2/ might be the way to go.

 No.135223

>It's a great idea.

It is, but it's inconvenient af if you're strictly on TOR. Unlike all the other cross-linking mechanisms on the site, the Nerv code hard-links back to the normalfaggot 8ch.net instead of properly re-linking over to the onion server. After a couple of weeks of trying to deal with the nuisance of it I finally decided it wasn't worth it. Codemonkey couldn't give a rip about it obviously, and HW isn't around anymore ofc.

Hey faggots, why don't you learn how to use GIMP and stop textposting?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! That's the only way you can start anything. Multimedia is the only way to attract people to anything. If you're trying to entertain anyone, you need to appeal to visual stimulus.

The /b/ of the early 2010s was entertaining because everyone knew how to use photoshop to communicate. If you want this site to be better than reddit, then fucking act like it. This is a fucking imageboard. This is not a forum. Fuckanus

They can easily do:

>a board of the day that isn't the top dog boards

<You can argue the recent board section does that but any board with slight traction that still needs more people to get it popular will already be off that recent board section and they'll start losing popualrity

>Maybe do what 4chan does and allow cross board advertisements and not allow big boards from advertising since the users already know about it.

<Granted how popular a board must be before it's denied advertisement is debatable, maybe when it has more than 1/4th of the isps on the site every day of one week could be used

>Allow board users to add tags that compare them

<Alternatively board owners could just advertise other boards ala how /leftyb/ advertises all the other lefty boards, but not every board owner will not show this same kindenss and inforcing a ruling or beg for tehm to do that would just be a disaster

>Add a panal (that you can disable) that shows recent posts from all boards on the site so peopel getting in who are interested in the discussion of the thread can just jump in. Instead of hoping they're interested in a board just from the name

<The only problem though would be that it would make the site bit clustered with information and if implemented would force a entire redesign

Aye, for the most part, but niche is a thing of the past.

No.

All the chans suck now. They are done. They killed themselves. They and the internet became too popular for their own good. See, 'The first two rules of Fight Club' for example. The next chat spaces to share things with will be further from reach, like the cookie jar in a kitchen, the liquor cabinet or a gun. Also, look at who owns and runs them; Slimeballs all. Personally, my trust in a person wanes when I find out they are or have been to court. Even if they are a decent person, that means they made a big mistake and from there on I careful with them.

For now, use what we have.

Plebbit, Jewtube, 4um and Infinity.

until niche and traditions make a comeback
