This is probably more of an /x/ tier post, however I wanted a few people to actually hear about what is happening to me.

A few days ago, I was reading a thread about a website owenholt.org from 4chan's /x/. I only read a few posts and they were along the lines of "this site is supposed to be spooky" and "I do not have the balls to sign up."

I am extremely stupid and live a very boring life, so I visited the site. It claimed to "have the truth" if I "joined". To join they wanted email, real name, and phone #. I was bored and figured the worst that could happen was spam emails and calls [which happens already] so I signed up.

First thing I noticed was a red letter message that popped up saying "You already made it" when I was halfway through the info sign up page. When I finished the application another message said "We'll be in touch" This was at about 7-8pm I would say.

The followiing morning at 5:30am my phone starts ringing from a restricted number call. I picked up and it sounded like shitty, muffled music so I hung up. It immediately rang again, I answered and it was just more muffled noise, so I hung up and turned my phone off.

At around 6pm that same day I turned my phone back on and saw a text from a 4859 that said "we have the answers".

The next morning I get another restricted call, but this time there is actually a voice on the other end. It was a guy from the UK and he sounded pissed. He was talking very fast but from what I understood he had been getting annoying calls as well. He sounded like somebody who had quite a bit of knowledge about tracing phone numbers because he told me that he traced the calls back to my number. I spent about 15 mins on the phone with him explaining that I have not called anyone. He eventually calmed down and stopped blaming me for these calls. It sounded as if he were calling from an office with other people trying to solve the crime as well. I could hear him talking to another person in a hushed tone.

There were also random muffled sound effects that would interrupt the connection. One was a laugh and the others were too muffled to name.

Once we hung up I got no further calls for a whole day until a few minutes ago.

So I get another call from a "restricted" number. There was person on the line again as well.

This guy sounded a bit "middle eastern" or maybe had a slight Indian accent. Anyways he was VERY hard to understand. He kept rambling on and on about how I am safe and should not be afraid. But not in a comforting way. He was scolding me for covering up my number as "private" I came to understand.

This conversation was long and frustrating because it took a very long time to explain to this man that the calls were not coming from me. He was telling me "It is OK to play game, but you do not have to be afraid. You do not have to hide your number."

The same muffled laugh sound and other sounds were coming across just as they had on the previous calls. Once I was finally able to make him understand the calls were not from me, he seemed to get a bit nervous. He began to ramble on a bit more than before and I felt kind of sorry for him. I truly have NO FUCKING LIFE so this situation does not really bother me. I find it interesting actually.

I was wanting off the phone and I told the man "We are all a bit confused here. Call me anytime though, I do not mind." Just as I said that a very clear, very human male voice said "You realize that is a man, right?" In a sarcastic tone.

Just as that happened the Indian guy asks me "Did you just send me a message?" He was concerned.

I said "No, but I did just have a voice come through and say something. You didn't hear that?"

"No" and then he started to ramble again. I said "All right man I gotta go. Take Care." and I hung up. I was not frightened, but mildly spooked by the voice that was obviously listening in on the conversation. I turned off my phone and removed the battery. It remains that way now.

So when I signed up, I was expecting spam but hoping for a half assed attempt at scaring me. I never imagined to be legitimately impressed by the phone hacking and mild spooky factor! I respect these trolls or whatever they are.

I was wondering if any of you had any experience with this type of thing? And if so, would you please share your knowledge?

Well, I will keep updating if anything new or interesting happens. I am very interested as to what these people are up too…

Seems interesting.

OP's story does sound like bullshit (no offense, OP) but it would be interesting if one of the regulars on here joined. I'm a NEET and my parents getting spooky phone calls would get me kicked out.

As for technical aspect of what you described - yeah, "mitm" attack on your calls is totally possible and not THAT complicated.

I could test it all out to see where it brings me but I don't feel like hitting tor/whatever wall. Maybe some other day..

so I was informed the website is supposedly an ARG [alternate reality game]. I had no idea such a thing exists, nor did I know that I had signed up for one.

I was relieved to find out this may not be as malicious as I once thought.

However, I am not so sure this is ONLY a game. It seems to be a bit more serious than just a game. [just my own gut feeling]

I did receive 2 emails from them. I will post the screen shots.
