A reason to not tor every time is that if you are not connecting to it through a VPN (preferably a log less one), ISP knows you are connecting to it, they are assholes and could see you as a suspect for illegal activities.

You could use Tails to tor on a protected network (assuming it has access to internet).

Not a major reason not to, but it's pretty slow so I couldn't imagine only using it and nothing else.
