Historically the majority of the region was a part of the Roman empire called Syria Palaestina (the name Palestine dates back to around 1000 BC), and yes, there were still squabbles between the Jews and Romans about this shithole piece of land.
When we're talking about millennia, borders go through a multitude of variations, so I think it's a stretch to say that because your ancestors from 3000 years ago occupied a piece of land, that it's "owed" to you.
