That's for clearing the water up there, I have a big imagination and my impression of the states comes from TV, Books(brewing) and a mate who grew up in Mitchigan moved back to the UK then after university he moved to Arizona I think, (we miss you Adam come back) but I think my impression comes from Cheers mainly. I do hope to get to San Diego or Portland beer festival next year (business dependant).

What do you recommend from the small batches?

Don't get me wrong people here generally prefer m8 Lights and still think Stella Artois is fancy, but the amount of choice for drinking has gotten much better around here in my city. Microbreweries are gaining steam here and Lagunitas even put another brewery here.

Matilda is one that I frequent. It has a hint of spice and has a bready ,almost cake-like, taste to it.

I believe I've had Sofie before, but it has been a while so I couldn't tell you in detail about it.

We're starting to see A LOT of Lagunitas IPA round these parts and can be picked up in shops cheaper than a Brewdog and that's not a bad thing I love it, was on one I found in the bar fridge last night. It's also being sold in Wetherspoons(cheap UK chain pub) now at only £2.50 a bottle.

Girls names, I like the theme although I've not seen any here in England and doubt we will, also a continental theme in your tastes which is also interesting. From reading books (Vinnie Chilurzo, Garrett Oliver, Sam Calli-whatchyoumucallit from dogfish head) US brewers really look to the UK and Europe for beer fondness and yet all my favourite UK brewers (Brewdog, Magic Rock, Kernel and Summerwine) look to US brewers for inspiration, I guess it's what's different is exciting but with out US brewers looking to replicate old world styles, the UK brewers would probably be churning out multiple pales or the same old stouts that the uneducated palate just laps up because?? Well they don't know any different. As you say it's great to go to so many places and get a well made tasty beer but now that was happening the flip side of that is people like Guinness or Wells are now jumping on the bandwagon (and have better salesmen or profit margins) and are brewing craft beers. I refuse to try the Guinness brews on principle (see https://www.brewdog.com/lowdown/blog/diageo-screw-brewdog) and when I tasted the Charles Wells vs Dogfish Head DNA fuck I was so disgusted at Sam I felt like tweeting him there and then to express my outrage at his sell out, but I didn't I remained British and hid my disappointment. I'm late out of the bath now better get a move on as I can ramble on a bit.

> m8 lights

Sorry m8 I'll change that word filter, I thought it was funny at the time, it is because it just confused me i'm thinking m8 light? What's this m8 light?

>Charles Wells vs Dogfish Head DNA

I'm starting to resent these gods of American brewing. Wetherspoons have this hard-on for fetching over brewers from Dogfish Head, Brooklyn, Founders, 6Point and I even seen a Cigar CIty; all for the purpose of brewing a craft beer exclusively for Wetherspoons but they put them in (mid to shit tier) British breweries with British ingredients and the beers they produce is fucking shit, I'd much rather have a good Roosters made at Roosters by Roosters than any of the crap they put the big names on from shitty UK breweries, it's a disgraceful practice and it need to stop. Also what the fuck is devils backbone it's as crap as Sainsburys Amercian Craft Ale. Big boys need to stop applying craft to their disgusting bland or downright bad beers .

On a less sour note I was quite impressed with that Pilsner Urqell you bought me, went well with my sunset picnic last night up near Top Withens

Wow, they do say everyday is a school day and the saying is correct today, further cementing how Britain sucks but I suppose I should rejoice in my fermentation cupboard being an easy build.

>>133

>I just need to work on it.

Story of my life, but if you do work on it I for one would be interested in pics at least as it does sound intriguing,my plans were just to drag cool air from the base of my cupboard via extractors at the top.

 No.147

I decanted >>115 to the secondary on Sunday and could taste what it is like to ferment at 27°C.

It has a very sweet and spicy taste. The spices blend nicely and the beer has acquired a pepper taste on top. A yeast aftertaste is still present but should go away soon. The overall feel is very warm, from the mouth down to the chest. A true polar winter warner. It really deserves its name: Monsieur Père Noël (Mister Santa Claus).

>>147

Well done m8, what yeast was it you used again? I do love a nice Christmas beer by the fire on a cold dark snowy night, how will you serve this? Bottles presumably? I'll be fixing the mash tun tonight with any luck

SafBrew T-58. You plan to brew it before I was able to test the final product ? It might still change in the next weeks…

 No.159

>>155

No will probably wait until next year now but I do need to get a stout on very soon and it's that darned loose gasket on the mash tun that's holding me back, I fancy an imperial but doubt it would age in time. Probably re-do the chocolate milk stout I did last year but dial down the hops and up the chocolate.

How many different beers have you guys say you've tried?

I'd say I'm in the 150-200 range

Hey there brother, yeah what a scary question I'd say at a terrible rough estimate as 500+ including my own home brews. A good way to try lots of different beers for free is to volunteer at a beer festival, getting pissed up on the job is frowned upon but you are supposed to be able to describe the beers you're selling which means testing them all

Tripcode problems forced a delete and repost.

welcome, I'd say about 200-300 possibly.

working in a pub helps too, I just wish our lagers rotated like the real ales do.
