She sings in the subway with no backup band as part as a dare to promote Nerve and doesn't miss a note! A throwback to the pre-autotune era.

>Q: While you were doing Unfabulous you made a CD. Will you be doing more?

>A: No, my musical career is indefinitely on hold. I don’t like people who become like ‘actor slash singer.’ I think people should be one or the other because usually you’re not going to be great at both. You’re going to better at one, so you might as well stick to the one you’re good at. I’m going for acting.

https://parade.com/31830/parade/emma-roberts-hotel-for-dogs/ - http://archive.is/rS5XT

If anyone can pull it off (the actress/singer thing) it's her, but she's absolutely right.

There's a reason why Chanel #2 lasted an episode and a few more scenes.

You can do either of those things and the other as a sporadic side thing (as in cameos), but not pursue both full time or both will likely suffer in quality.

David Lynch is a very rare exception to this rule of thumb, though he apparently doesn’t like to be called a musician. You can easily tell he is very involved in music in his other work. Especially the latest season of Twin Peaks makes that clear, I think all but the last few episodes ended with a ‘live performance’ at the Roadhouse. He is known to have muses to inspire him as well.

https://web.archive.org/web/20170702195344/https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/david-lynch-on-chasing-his-muse-for-new-album-the-big-dream-20130711

I am glad Emma decides to focus on her acting and not try to combine the two. Singers who dabble in acting is almost always a bad thing and only given the part because of name recognition.

>David Lynch is a very rare exception to this rule of thumb

Another example would be John Carpenter. The man is a god among men when it comes to music scores. At first he wasn't that good at filmmaking though. I have to say that the score for Assault on Precinct 13 was much better than the film itself. Halloween was top notch and showed how much he improved in few years.

If I posted this video to /tv/ morons would complain about the "unnecessary" panoramic shots

>He is known to have muses to inspire him as well.

Nicolas Winding Refn is another example of that.

Fuck yeah. Carpenter is the godfather of electronic music scores. I was really impressed by the space/spaceship effects in ‘Dark Star’, and that was a student film he did with Dan O’Bannon. With the small budget they had to work with it is impressing. The opening to ‘Halloween III: Season of the Witch’ is one of my all-time favourites – the synth score as the jack-o’-lantern ‘loads’ on the screen and is finally revealed in full is brilliant. It is such a shame they ditched the idea of making it an anthology series after ‘Halloween 2’.

>If I posted this video to /tv/ morons would complain about the "unnecessary" panoramic shots

/tv/ will bitch and moan about anything just for the sake of it.

>Nicolas Winding Refn is another example of that.

It’ll be interesting to see how his new crime TV show turns out. I don’t think Fanning is involved in that though, so he might be forced to look for a new/second muse. Fanning is probably looking to do bigger projects now, and NWR is basically an outsider in Hollywood. Interesting interview btw. NWR seems to deviate from the script quite often – ‘Valhalla Rising’, ‘Only God Forgives’ & now ‘The Neon Demon’. I would love to read the scripts and see what he had originally planned for all these films. I think OGF was originally meant to be a squeal of sorts to VR, set in modern-day Japan (Tokyo?). I still think TND was supposed to be more about witchcraft – I might try to elaborate on this in the designated film & TV thread.

I think she just really loves that SUV.

She has (or had) a Ford Mustang, a Mercedes-Benz G500, a Mini Clubman. She also had a dark gray Range Rover at some point and has a newer one now.

I'm guessing she ditched the G500 because they're pretty awful to drive on the pavement and not very comfortable even if they are badass and classy.

Yeah, fashion and music from the late ’70s bled into the ’80s unnoticed – Italo Disco started in the 1970s as electronic music started catching on. Fashion in the 1970s was mostly atrocious though – everything from the corduroy fabric to the mustard yellow, brown and orange colours that seemed to be everywhere, bell-bottom pants, &c.

The 1970s gave us the grittier, more brutal horror films, slashers, and the first Italiansploitation and giallo films though, so at least something good came out of the decade. And I’d take a good throwback to late ’70s buddy cop action comedies over the shameless ’80s nostalgia trash Hollywood is trying to pander to now that they have found out the 1980s is en vogue.

I haven’t seen that one yet, I DL’d it before my PC crashed, but the audio was Ruski.

I might give it a watch though, since it is a short and an indie film – the makers obviously love the aesthetic and the types of action films the ’80s gave us. I’m much more critical of big studio productions that do this pandering shit – ‘Moonbeam City’ for example. Awful writing and useless celeb voice acting with a nice packaging.

Ah, that brings back good memories of skullcrushings, bashings and just general mayhem.

Come to think of it, that bar scene in The Guest when Hourglass plays nearly turned into a Hotline Miami mission.

Devolver Digital sure knows how to pick games with Elder God-tier soundtracks. I have yet to try Ruiner, but the trailer was amazing, not least thanks to the music by Sidewalks and Skeletons.

Just saw it is on sale on GOG, they have the OST there as well, and you get it in both mp3 & flac. Weird the game is 9.5GB though, it doesn’t strike me as that big a game. Remember when you could fit an entire game on a 500MB CD-ROM?

I wish(found footage) horror films would embrace the witch house music and aesthetic – the glicthy, somewhat low-res VHS look and the eerie electronica music works perfectly together.
