It is long overdue: a thread for the discussion of past, present and future films, TV shows (and music) featuring our beloved muse.

‘SCRE4M’, the fourth instalment in the slasher comedy series, the two seasons of Ryan Murphy’s clever horror/slasher comedy (and whodunit) show ‘Scream Queens’, the beautiful drama thriller ‘Nerve’, the star-packed dark comedy ‘We’re the Millers’ & the hit show ‘American Horror Story’ have all been talked about in the Best Emma Generals over at /tv/, but we have of course only scratched the surface so far.

Also, best Emma is scheduled to appear in no less than five films in 2018:

In a Relationship

Billionaire Boys Club

Little Italy

Paradise Hills – the directorial feature film debut of award-winning short film director Alice Waddington

Anya’s Ghost – an adaptation of the graphic novel from 2011 by Vera Brosgol. Emma is cast as Emily, the ghost Anya befriends.

BREAKING NEWS

<EXCLUSIVE: Resident Evil franchise star Milla Jovovich, Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia 2, War Horse), and Awkwafina (Ocean’s Eight, Crazy Rich Asians) are heading to Paradise Hills, the sci-fi thriller from first-time director Alice Waddington. The group joins Emma Roberts, Eiza Gonzalez, and Danielle Macdonald in the film, which is currently shooting in Spain.

Next to Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy, Waddington’s upcoming film Paradise Hills is the film I most looking forward to this year.

Later this summer - in the US at least - according to the press release.

It has already been shown at Sundance, so why haven’t we seen a trailer yet?

Someone on the /tv/ general shared this trailer for Billionaire Boys Club.

It's looking good.

No English trailer yet, only the Russian for some reason.

It's wonderful news because it clears some of the uncertainty surrounding the film.

Allegedly our muse plays a female "Wolf of Wall Street" type character. She's absolutely gorgeous in it, as usual.

Whoever casted the actors must have seen Baby Driver and liked the chemistry between Algort and Spacey with Spacey playing boss.

From the cars I'm pretty certain it's set in the 80s.

The Blackcoat's Daughter

Ok, so I assume Kat's dad was abusing her and the devil/demon provided her comfort. She made a deal with the devil/demon to kill her dad so he couldn't abuse her any more. Her mother had already died in a car crash so I don't understand why she had written mum and dad on the calendar? With the devil/demon cast out he can never return so she feels forever alone. Am I misreading this or on the right track?

The tension in the movie is on point. I felt like I was holding my breath most of the time and found myself jumping at points I was so tense. Roberts plays crazy well. It was impressive they found an actress to play Rose that looked so similar to Roberts.

So were the two women actually devil worshipers and that's why the devil was already present at the school to prey on Kat? Or was it just a coincidental scary story Rose told to frighten Kat? Poor Rose. When her father was talking about coincidences making him believe in God, it made me wonder if it was the devil/demon that provided Kat/Joan the opportunistic meeting between them?

BO here, I don't think I had seen something so tense since I watched Halloween. I was spoilered in a way because of some OC I made a while back (if you didn't see it yet, it's this one >>274. I was more spoilered than I initally thought) so I was quick to draw the connection between Kat and Joan, specially when the ID with the mismatch face was shown. The scene where Rose gets murdered was absolutely terrifying.

Funnily enough in the first minutes I was trying to figure out if she was Rose, Lucy Boynton and Emma look remarkably similar from some angles, specially when making the kind of face that curves your nose (pics related).

I believe you're misreading, I saw no indications of her dad abusing her. Seems to me like a case of demonic possession more than a deal with the devil. Maybe the exorcism didn't completely work, or perhaps her knowledge that they were Rose's parents made her decide to try and see if she could completely bury the past by killing them. Or maybe as you said she was lonely. By the way, the devil reminds me of the bunny from Donnie Darko. Except I hated Donnie Darko, a movie that feels painfully adolescent to me. It has an edgy emo teen vibe I can't stand. My cousin loved it and made me watch it, as well as Edward Scissorhands. I hated both. I made her watch Cobra and she loved it.

I'm not sure on what position to take there, maybe Rose was trying to frighten her so that she could get away with sneaking out while making sure Kat stays quiet in her bedroom. I don't think they were devil worshipers, otherwise why lock the house and send Rose outside? I think they did it to protect her. What I don't know is how the headmaster knew he should head back to the school.

Maybe the devil promised Kat he'd bring back her mother.

I think it was interesting that in the ending Joan touches the cold furnace but we don't see the ritual taking place and she's seemingly remorseful. She had already shown some pain when a tear comes out after killing Rose, but this time she seems desperate. That final scene was completely soul crushing. You can feel the hopelessness.

>I saw no indications of her dad abusing her. Seems to me like a case of demonic possession more than a deal with the devil.

The indications I took were from webm related. Man enters bedroom of sleeping child, Daddy, put the camera away, you never see his face, the mood is ominous. Also her reluctance to leave the boarding school and her attachment to the head master. I think you're right about it being more about possession than a deal made, as her arm being held up while asleep at the beginning is like a hypnotic entrancement signal (or something like that). I think I thought it had been a deal or contract because she asks it not to go in the hospital. Thinking on it, perhaps she killed her father before heading to school for the term? At first I thought the call to the school would have been police about a car wreck that's killed her father on his way to pick her up. And the women sent Rose outside to inform Kat of his passing in confidence. But it could just as easily have been police calling about his rotting hacked up body found at home? As she's quite sure her parents are dead when she tells Rose

>What I don't know is how the headmaster knew he should head back to the school.

I initially thought it was because he was coming to comfort Kat after finding out her parents were dead (which I assumed had been her dad in a car crash). But now I'm not sure.

>By the way, the devil reminds me of the bunny from Donnie Darko. Except I hated Donnie Darko, a movie that feels painfully adolescent to me. It has an edgy emo teen vibe I can't stand.

Yes same!!

My cousin loved it and made me watch it, as well as Edward Scissorhands. I hated both. I made her watch Cobra and she loved it.

Kek, well I saw ES as a child and kind of grew up on it so I have a soft spot for it now. Haven't seen Cobra. Should I dl?

>I was spoilered in a way because of some OC I made a while back (if you didn't see it yet, it's this one >>274.

>The scene where Rose gets murdered was absolutely terrifying.

Agreed. All of the [spoiler]death scenes[spoiler] were brutally realistic.

>Joan touches the cold furnace but we don't see the ritual taking place and she's seemingly remorseful. She had already shown some pain when a tear comes out after killing Rose, but this time she seems desperate. That final scene was completely soul crushing. You can feel the hopelessness.

I got the impression she looked like she realised the devil/demon truly was gone at that moment by the furnace, rather than a look of remorse. Yes that last scene she sounds like a dying animal.

>The indications I took were from webm related. Man enters bedroom of sleeping child, Daddy, put the camera away, you never see his face, the mood is ominous.

That's interesting and something I missed. Strangely enough, the Spanish subtitles say "Papi, ¿se puede revivir?" ("Daddy, can you revive?", but they had a bunch of inaccuracies) and the English ones said "Daddy, Kimberly". However, I googled "the blackcoat's daughter script" and found this, pic related: https://www.sendspace.com/file/9w2mgj

So we're both terribly wrong and misheard Kat, but it makes me wonder if the figure we see was the devil. All we see from the father is, as the title says, the Blackcoat. Perhaps the devil gave her the vision in the dream and became all she had from then on.

>Also her reluctance to leave the boarding school and her attachment to the head master.

Well, she's a kid and the school seems to be basically in the middle of nowhere. I didn't notice much of an attachment to the head master except when the devil spoke through him.

>I think I thought it had been a deal or contract because she asks it not to go in the hospital.

Seems like the explanation is loneliness.

I think the reason she's so sure is that she had that dream and then they didn't show up.

>I initially thought it was because he was coming to comfort Kat after finding out her parents were dead (which I assumed had been her dad in a car crash). But now I'm not sure.

I found it strange that he arrived with the police, although maybe the officer gave him a lift but it would be too convenient of a coincidence.

>Yes same!!

Glad to be on the same page lol.

>Kek, well I saw ES as a child and kind of grew up on it so I have a soft spot for it now.

I'm not sure I watched it all to be honest, as some stuff you've posted in the webm generals didn't seem too familiar to me.

>Haven't seen Cobra. Should I dl?

Definitely yes. It's probably Sly's most AESTHETIC movie, it's pure 80s goodness with the quintessential over-the-top macho lead and it was directed by George P. Cosmatos (the director of Rambo II and father of Panos Cosmatos, the director of Beyond the Black Rainbow).

>Ah yes I remember you posted this in a webm thread I think. I had originally seen it as February but hadn't really (i got so bored in the first few minutes, I forwarded through it at 12-30x speed so had no idea what was going on and couldn't be bothered to find out.

lol, I don't think I've ever tried going so fast

>I'm glad I gave it another go for the movie club.

I'm glad we watched it too. I guess the idea of discussing the movies afterwards makes us more engaged.

>Nice watching your OC again too.

Thanks!

>Agreed. All of the death scenes were brutally realistic.

Indeed, and not just that but Kiki doing it makes it all the more chilling.

>she realised the devil/demon truly was gone at that moment by the furnace, rather than a look of remorse

I saw this theory in other places and given the hospital scene it makes sense. What seems strange to me is that she escapes the mental institution and kills Rose's parents, something that would make sense if the devil had instructed her to do so. The devil was present before the killings, it was only after the exorcism that he was gone.

>Yes that last scene she sounds like a dying animal.

The moment when they silence her and leave only the music as in a silent film really amps up the desperation.

After making this post I looked further in the script and the mother is supposed to have her head tilted at an unnatural angle, the father's face is shown in the car scene. I think I'm glad they weren't completely faithful to the script in that part, it tries too hard to be supernatural and it hurts the realism. It also reminds me even more of Donnie Darko.

Sounds about right.

>I found it strange that he arrived with the police, although maybe the officer gave him a lift but it would be too convenient of a coincidence.

Yeah I imagined that maybe he had been called about it and made his way to the police station before going to the school. But really they could have just made him and the cop arrive at the same time. Or not even bother showing the head master until the hospital scene.

What an oppressive and foreboding atmosphere this film has! It is so damn bleak and dreary. Feels like time’s stopped in this school, and everywhere else we see, despite the presence of modern technology. Also, this was a long sit. I enjoy a slow burn, but this one dragged on.

The dialogue is so fucking forced and unnatural at times – in fact, most of the time. These are not real people; they are walking talking stereotypes. I got a little excited when James Remar (Bill) showed up, but his character felt like it belonged more in a Kirk Cameron/Ray Comfort production.

None of the characters are fleshed out enough to be interesting, and I found the horror clichés to be more than a touch annoying. IMHO the highlight of the film was the scene where they are sitting down to eat and ordering Kat to say grace. After that scene was when I really started to wish for it to be over.

Summa summarum: Good actors/actresses trapped in an overambitious and dreary film with awkward dialogue with too many character plots that takes itself so seriously it almost becomes funny. It comes off as a schizo film that can’t decide if it wants to be a bleak and serious drama or a horror film, so it aims for both and misses both with disastrous results. 👎

I agree with this. They are kind of blank bodies carrying out the story. This might have worked better as a short film.

>It comes off as a schizo film that can’t decide if it wants to be a bleak and serious drama or a horror film

I imagine the pregnancy scare, followed by relief and immediate murder served to emphasise the brutality and tragedy of the murder (if she hadn't told her parents the wrong date, she wouldn't have died etc.)

>IMHO the highlight of the film was the scene where they are sitting down to eat and ordering Kat to say grace.

I liked the scene after it when she cusses out the woman and it shoots to a reaction of Rose' face. Made me kek.

>>874

Wow, this review was unexpected.

It's definitely oppressive, but I saw it as a good thing. I was a bit bothered by the chronology though, the back and forths. About the technology, I think it's important to note that it's probably early 2000s (film camera, cell phones are uncommon, the cop's SUV is a 2000-2006 Tahoe, the mother's car looks like it's a 90s Cavalier, Rose's music player looks early 2000s too) so I guess that explains why it's like that. And it's a boarding school during winter break. It makes sense that it's that way and it was probably intended. Nowadays things have changed and time flies if you have internet (which has also been a curse for our productivity), but other than that it's probably a similar experience. I haven't been to a boarding school but I've lived in a dorm and stayed some days during break, it's disturbingly quiet.

>The dialogue is so fucking forced and unnatural at times – in fact, most of the time. These are not real people; they are walking talking stereotypes. I got a little excited when James Remar (Bill) showed up, but his character felt like it belonged more in a Kirk Cameron/Ray Comfort production.

His actions were weird, that's true. But other than that I didn't feel like everyone was that stereotypical (well, maybe the nuns, they were quite unrealistic too).

>None of the characters are fleshed out enough to be interesting, and I found the horror clichés to be more than a touch annoying. IMHO the highlight of the film was the scene where they are sitting down to eat and ordering Kat to say grace. After that scene was when I really started to wish for it to be over.

The highlights for me were:

<the scene of Kat bowing to the furnace

<the scene where Joan excuses herself after being shown the photo of Rose and bursts out laughing in the restroom

<the killing of Rose

<the killing of Rose's parents

The Kat scenes were specially chilling, even more than the Joan ones. For some reason I kind of enjoyed seeing Joan in action, rather than be horrified by it.

I think the main issue the film had was the back and forths in the storytelling, rather than the many plots. I wonder if the film was made more interesting to me because of the fact I spoiled myself when it comes to the killing of Rose's parents and the final scene. Maybe knowing what would come next was my saving grace.

>the shower drain

What do you mean by relief? I was under the impression that it was an actual pregnancy and they were planning to kill the baby.

>I liked the scene after it when she cusses out the woman and it shoots to a reaction of Rose' face. Made me kek. Same lol, although I think I kek'd (and was also shocked) when Kat said "cunt" and then Rose's reaction just made me feel like I was there or something.

Probably my personal experience with actual nuns is what makes them seem off to me.

It was goofy, but it also weirded me out. I didn't like the contortion scene at the bed though, seemed clichéd.

>Yup, my mind jumped to that as soon as I saw it.

I think parallels could be drawn between the cold furnace scene and the scene where Darling opens the room. We don't know what she saw but one possibility was that it was empty. While Joan doesn't kill herself, the desperation is similar.

>Good heavens! Have you been missing out all these years, BO. I still watch the two original Home Alone films each Christmas.

Isn't there some tradition regarding a Home Alone/Die Hard combo? I seem to recall reading about people having an habit of watching them together or something like that.

Great news! I wasn't a fan of her looks in AHS: Coven (although I loved her style) but time has been kind to her.

Also if Madison is back maybe it means she has resurgence, a power unavailable even to some Supremes and that's regarded as more powerful than any of the Seven Wonders.

BO here, just watched Billionaire Boys Club. I'm first to post a review for once, lol. I enjoyed it but it left me hungry for more, specially given its runtime of 108 minutes. I've seen shorter movies that left me completely satisfied, case in point Hitman's Run or The Blackcoat's Daughter, clocking at 93 minutes each. I think Paradise Hills might satisfy me more, if only because of the genre.

In a way, it was like seeing Baby Driver again. Ansel Algort somehow ends up working for Kevin Spacey, things go awry and a black guy brought to the scene by Ansel fucks up. In both movies Ansel wants to get out of a situation he was lead into by his own naivety but ends up jailed. I know that's a gross oversimplification but it's possible to distill it to that point. That said, Baby Driver left me more satisfied, perhaps owing that to its more intense action. It delivered all that could be expected from it. Billionaire Boys Club wasn't bad but it fell a long way short of greatness.

Our muse was stunning as always but her performance was on point but the role didn't give her much to work with, Sydney was pretty much a background character (despite her being key to how things play out in the end). I quite liked this particular scene in the video though, very model-esque. I appreciate that they managed to sneak that in, Emma's beauty really shines in it.

Ansel Algort's performance was on point too, but the character could have been more interesting.

The highlights of the movie when it comes to performances were probably Kevin Spacey's chameleonic Ron and Taron Egerton's charismatic Mean Dean. By the way, I think we'll all agree that given that ending, Dean really was the one who set that room on fire, don't we?

The part where Joe gets the call telling him the check bounced didn't surprise me in the least, I expected it to happen but hoped it would not. What did surprise me was learning that the broker was part of the con, earlier in the movie.

The movie suffers a lot in the soundtrack department, I believe that it's one of the things that made Baby Driver so great and this one fall flat. The soundtrack can make or break a movie. Also the scene where they get the BMWs could have used some stunt driving, they could and should have indulged more. Make us feel involved. Get them racing with each other, show us the boys having some fun with their new toys Emulate movies like No Man's Land a bit (I'm mentioning it not just because of the frenetic scenes in the cars, but also because it also features a guy with no money who gets into the 80s LA high roller lifestyle before things turn ugly). Give us some thrills. The cast was great and pretty much flawless, but the movie could have been so much more with better editing. It felt rushed and incomplete, a diamond in the rough if you will. It could have been so much more.

I'll sum up my feelings with a quite autistic parody of "I Need a Hero", may Bonnie Tyler forgive my sacrilege:

<I need a kino

<I'm holding out for a kino 'til the end of this year

<It's gotta be intense

<And it's gotta be bold

<And it's gotta be fresh for this art

<I need some neon

<I'm holding out for some neon 'til the nineteen arrives

<It's gotta be strong

<And it's gotta be soon

<And it's gotta be brighter than life!

<Brighter than life

<Somewhere after midnight

<in my wildest fantasy

<Somewhere just in Paradise Hills

<there's something reaching back for me.

<Racing into inferno and rising with the heat

<It's gonna take some disco to sweep me off my feet

I forgot to mention three other parallels to Baby Driver:

>Ansel gets played by Kevin

>His father tries to talk him out of his shady deals, to no avail

>His mother is absent from his life

The more I think about it, the more it seems to me like a cynical cash grab and a rehash of Baby Driver's formula. At this point it almost makes sense to talk about babydriversploitation or AlgortxSpaceysploitation. too bad some of the winning elements were missing.

Just finished the film – the credits are still playing – and I’ll try to come up with something semi-coherent and with as little rambling as possible tomorrow, due to the late hour, but here are a few bulletpoints:

I did enjoy the film quite much – I found the two leads to be very good in their roles, the guy who played Joe was very good IMHO. This is also the second film I have seen where Kevin Spacey plays a massive fraud – he has a knack for that kind of character, I think.

Did not get a whole lot of 1980s vibes from it – it might as well have been set in the current year. The hairdoos and the fashions and the sets did not look they were from 1983. The, bright and colourful neon sign end credits were a bit too cheesy after that ending IMHO – it clashed with the serious tone and downer ending. I felt that the ending was too abrupt as well; no real closure, just bam! cut to credits and add some explanatory text at the end to let us know what happened to the characters. From the point where they try to get the diamonds it is impossibly rushed and it feels like they’ve (the filmmakers) run out of time.

Joe’s trial could have been our entry-point to the film, and from that we cut back to tell the story. I think that would have worked better, and at the very end we would learn his sentence.

Also, are Emma & Billie BFFs IRL?

You posted basically the same video as I did, lol.

We were obviously mesmerized by it, look at >>1085

If you liked Ansel Algort's and Kevin Spacey's performance you should totally check out Baby Driver. It's much better and more engaging. And it's a lot more music and action driven.

I too found Billionaire Boys Club to be lacking in the 80s department. Not from the hairdos (they aren't stereotypical but don't look out of place either) but mostly from the music. It was period music but not really mood-setting music that transports you to the era, it felt generic. They could have used something more iconic, like embed related.

>Also, are Emma & Billie BFFs IRL?

Unless it's pure PR I'd say they are. Makes sense, after doing so much stuff together with Scream Queens and some of AHS.

The film felt very rushed at times, and I would have liked to see it done as a mini-series (six hour-long episodes?) instead. That would have given them enough time to introduce and establish the various characters, and it would give us some time to reflect on the lengths the guys are willing to go to in order to achieve their goals. That way some of the less fleshed out characters – Sydney and the rest of the guys at the BBC – would be given some much-needed screentime.

In the film we are not given enough time to take in the changes they, especially Joe, goes through from beginning to end. It would be like if Breaking Bad was a film, and Walter White began the film as a high school chemistry teacher, and one hour and forty minutes later, he would be a hardened criminal. We need more time to truly buy into these changes I think, and the rushed speed of the film is the main downside to it.

Emma’s hairstyle at the birthday party looked similar to Alla Nazimova’s white hair in Salomé (1923).

 No.1142

Disappointing news about Paradise Hills: the IMDb page was updated and it is now listed as a 2019 film. My guess is that post-production ended up taking longer than planned.

>>1136

I felt the opposite, that the movie didn't do enough with the given time. It didn't keep me very engaged. The only thing that felt rushed to me was the production itself, it's as if this was a draft version.

I'm glad that you liked it more than I, though.

I disagree with your comparison to Walter, because Joe isn't supposed to be a hardened criminal by the end: he's a guy who got involved in a hot mess and is desperate to get out as unscathed as he possibly can. And it was rushed in real life too, unlike the story of Breaking Bad which happens in a span of years.

I didn't mind that the other characters didn't get fleshed out, because they weren't too relevant to the story. I enjoy character studies (like Better Call Saul, since you mentioned Breaking Bad) but in this case I feel like the director had to make a choice.

Kevin Spacey’s ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ Dumped on Just 10 Screens – Probably Not at a Theater Near You - https://www.thewrap.com/kevin-spaceys-billionaire-boys-club-opens-just-10-screens-probably-not-theater-near/

I sadly can't archive, seems like they block archive.is.

>“Billionaire Boys Club,” a fact-based thriller whose theatrical release was thrown into doubt after the sexual misconduct accusations against star Kevin Spacey last fall, opened on Friday — but on just 10 screens nationwide.

>The film, whose cast includes rising stars like Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton, Billie Lourd and Emma Roberts, is mostly skipping major markets for places like Solon, Ohio, Chalmette, La. and Pompano Beach, Florida.

>You can see it tonight in Brooklyn at Coney Island Avenue’s Kent Theater at 10 p.m. If you live in Southern California, you missed your shot — it already played its lone Friday showing at Riverside’s Galaxy Mission Grove 18 at 9:30 a.m, according to Fandango.

It was a extremely limited showing with little to no promotion and most of the audiences have likely watched it online already. If it was a better film it'd be worth paying to watch it in a cinema, but it fell flat. I think the online release hurt it more than Kevin Spacey's scandals ever could. And to add insult to injury, there's the inevitable comparison to Baby Driver. It's trendy to bash it on /tv/ but it's a tightly wrapped movie which keeps you engaged. It's mere entertainment but it's damn good at it. A clever caper that doesn't try to be a drama and a bunch of other things at once like Billionaire Boys Club did. And it's very music-driven, as opposed to the latter.

Finally getting around to watching Lynch’s Eraserhead while I wait for Little Italy.

Btw., have you noticed how similar Julia and Emma act/look at times?

BO here, about to watch Little Italy.

 No.2077

Just finished watching Little Italy and liked it but not without some caveats. I'll make some brief comments for now and expand later.

It closely mirrors Mystic Pizza in more than one way but without the director reaching the point of ripping himself off, it's it's own thing. Nikki is the new Daisy, but at the same time she has elements from Charlie. Franca and Carlo are the new Leona, but at the same time they have elements of Bill and Jojo mixed together. There's the classic secret sauce ingredient that nobody can figure out and you also have the pool scene which shows that Leo is in some ways both the new Daisy and the new Charlie (and then the drinking game). Of course, the "A Slice of Heaven" t-shirt is the cherry on top. The Virgin Mary playing the role Jesus played in the original and some gags getting a new version was funny too, as well as Franca using the "Madonna" pseudonym.

This one is much stronger in terms of memes than Mystic Pizza was, you have Ramsay posting (explicitly), baneposting, Pacino posting dunkaccino and also Scarface), jonesposting ("triple threat", and other things), a creepy shoe sniffer who compliments toes (I wonder if it was making fun of Tarantino, he's Italian after all and there were some comments about British Vogue like it's something super special, like Italian Vogue in Death Proof, Madonna jokes like in '' but I'm probably reading a bit too much into what could be a mere coincidence).

Even without my meme-infected mind, the comedy was effective and memorable.

Now the caveats: as expected in the current year, some things don't have the nuance that Mystic Pizza enjoyed and some things are included for progressive virtue signalling's sake. There's more blatant product placement. And finally, connected to the virtue signalling problem you have a film that's more aggressively targeted to women. Not only there were no gays in Mystic Pizza but also there was a lot more eye candy for us guys. This one is also dirtier in its humor, Mystic Pizza was a lot more innocent. Of course, it's partly because times have changed as you can tell just by listening to some random urban chicks talking today, but it still bothers me. It doesn't in Scream Queens because of how over the top it is, but in this movie (which is a lot more realistic in its slice of life aspects even if the story itself is rooted in fantasy) it really rubs me the wrong way. Of course, this is a problem I have with the current decadent reality itself, but the slices of life in Mystic Pizza were truly slices of Heaven. I'm aware that this is an escapist notion.

Well, that wasn't exactly brief.

 No.2078

I forgot to say that the shoe sniffer also has some radwellian/rubyian tendencies with the whole morgue thing. Likely not intentional but it's hilarious to me nevertheless.

 No.2081

>>2077

Oh and in terms of the lost nuance in respect to Mystic Pizza we now get Franca who is too prude to kiss without getting married but also a massive hypocrite that was happy to have sex once she was engaged to Carlo. It's a caricature and it doesn't work. Bill was a faithful man struggling to stay abstinent from sex that sometimes fell to temptation partly because of how much of a nympho Jojo was. I think it was funny that Franca insisted that Carlo "put a ring" on her but then fleed the moment he proposed to her.

Finally gonna get around to watching Little Italy tonight.

Would anyone be interested in seeing Nancy Drew for the filmclub? Nancy Drew has been brought up twice on Scream Queens, and it looks like a fun family mystery/detective film.

I found a really flattering review of the film which also praises Emma’s acting and screen presence.

<Fifteen year-old Emma Roberts was perfectly cast in the role. An exceptionally young actress, she has great screen presence, great comedic timing, and enough range to take Nancy from her usual, optimistic and extremely extroverted state to a more subdued emotional state when things go against her at one point in the film.

All these clichés! Mhm! Baked to perfection! I don’t get the decadence talk tbh. The humour is more risqué, but that is to be expected. There is still the focus on true love and family and friendship. The family bit was especially nice – not that often you see close families like this in films and TV – at least not that I can remember seeing in a while. Family feuding aside of course.

Shieeeet. I can’t believe it took me an hour before I recognised Alyssa Milano… FFS, what’s wrong with me?

That dinner scene at the Korma Sutra! Wew! A highlight for sure!

I think my favourite bit is when Leo mistakes that Asian chick at the airport for Nikki. Well played.

So glad they decided to include some of the goofs for the end credits – some of those ad libs/improvised lines and goofs were some of the funniest bits.

A shame they didn’t include any other mafia jokes than the ‘don’ line in the opening – maybe something about ‘waste management’, and having someone ‘sleep with the fishes’? If you’re gonna do it, go all in.

Here’s how that Baneposting should’ve gone down IMHO:

“It gonna be embarrassing…”

“You’re a big girl.”

“For you.”

Just a tiny change, but a world of difference.

Seeing Emma in that dress in the rain… wew! If only it had been a white dress. A missed opportunity.

That frisking scene… Can you imagine if the sexes had been swapped though? Outrage!

Scaring their elderly neighbour with firecrackers like that – it’s all fun and games till someone gets ’nam flashbacks.

Great to hear that!

As for Nancy Drew I'd like to advance the other list first. I'm still trying to figure out which films are on the list though lol, it's a long thread and we haven't been keeping a list in order.

It was maybe more explicit, but I think Mystic Pizza was more risqué. Except of course for the woman cop and the mortician. Didn't you think of The Neon Demon with that guy's comments? lol

>That dinner scene at the Korma Sutra! Wew! A highlight for sure!

As I told you on /julia/, dinner scenes are almost a genre in themselves, lol.

>Here’s how that Baneposting should’ve gone down IMHO:

Oh, I agree. Pic related. But you know I'm a sucker for baneposting so I'll gladly welcome even this.

>That frisking scene… Can you imagine if the sexes had been swapped though? Outrage!

I know right? And it's also evidence of what I said earlier about it being targeted more aggressively towards women.

>Scaring their elderly neighbour with firecrackers like that – it’s all fun and games till someone gets ’nam flashbacks.

lol

Actually disregard what I said about Mystic Pizza being more risqué, I went full retard.

Even with the "nympho" and the bathroom stall scene it didn't even come close.

And when it comes to the decadence talk, well... everyone seems to be sleeping around to some degree in this newer film.
