You have repeated that so often you believ it to be true
The good is simple: to love
Without love, all of this is purely mechanical existence - forced to play our part for no reason but the demands imposed upon us by that which we lack and require
but love is different
in it we appreciate a thing not as a means to an end, but as a thing in and of itself
We may also call this beauty
———————–
If we grant that existence can be preferable to non existence, and we are creatures that love one another, then the moral imperative is clear
- contribute to the flourishing of life
- contribute to the flourishing of beauty
you may say that beauty is anything, but clear patterns emerge in what is beautiful and what is ugly
Well made things, acts of valor, acts pof love and love itself define greatest beauty
but at the same time, it is the nature of beauty that if indeed it is a fixed proposition it can never be proved to be what it is because it can only ever be experienced subjectively
which again is not to say that it is only subjective, but that we are limited in our examination
