I have never decided to put myself under surveillance, and in Norway they even changed the law, so that we could be kept under surveillance as a way to get information on the general threat level.

Nordics started in the Bronze Age, when metal made it possible to build good enough boats, to trade and organize over distances.

Among the ships, you always find weapons, and Nordic archeological remains, are usually some sort of fortification, that became irrelevant as technology advanced.

What you don't find, is collapse and regression. The metal quality get's better, and imports come from further away.
