/boards/ is for finding/advertising boards.
Use the stickies to leave a "permanent" link to a board, but don't post duplicates in the stickies. You can also make a new thread for advertising a board. If you know of a cool board that isn't here, feel free to post it even if you didn't create it. Rules

Also check out the dynamic boards list.

Seriously, /boards/, how the fuck does anybody get their board out there?

Wheelz has been listening to people by getting rid of the top 25 at least temporarily and removing some of the incentive to ignore the fact that there are literally thousands of boards on this site, but still it seems like it's impossible to get any posters. Advertising your board on other boards seems to just lead to people being annoyed with you.

Is there even any answer to this? Are we all doomed to have our boards remain unnoticed unless 8chan somehow got a hell of a lot more regular posters?

The regular BO has to go over and beyond what a BO of a legacy board has to do to gain a tiny userbase, and even some legacy boards are struggling to gain anything.

Yet, we cannot wait for some fated day when 8chan gains a lot more regular posters, it's wishful thinking.

The best way of getting your board out there without generating much ire from others would be to create your own attractive OC.

If a board could generate good OC like how /christian/ created christ-tan/chan it would be sure to attract attention.

The problem is that so many have a 4chan mindset here, where they'd rather bitch about moderation than prop up an alternative and identify as a board rather than enjoy the topic of the boards. You can discuss video games without posting in /v/, you can discuss politics without posting on /pol/, etc. The community's still learning that.

Also, you have to shill your board a little and say why it's going to be different/better/new.

I'll put it on >>>/dir/ if it's not on there, if you think that would help. All you have to do is ask. :^)

Create OC, find boards that seem like they would be interested in yours (similar moderation, similar topics) and form friendships with them, advertise through images that are related to both your community as well as the community you're advertising to, be autistic enough in the beginning to create multiple threads every day and even samefag them with content in the beginning if necessary, advertise on other websites that might know about 8ch but not know about your small board, bathroompost (write links to your board in public bathroom stalls), "e-bathroompost" (advertise in the comment sections of weird obscure places on the internet, but don't make yourself sound like a bot). There's nothing wrong with advertising your board on the most popular boards, or advertising your alternative on the board you're trying to split from, but do so in meta threads that already exist and try to monitor the thread so you're talking to people who are already interested in leaving. Some people may get pissed and try to raid you or falseflag your board to give newfags a negative impression. Don't be caught off guard.

It will be an arduous process and it will take months to pay off, unless your board gets its start through a large migration. Never forget that for every minute you spend shilling you should spend two minutes trying to make your board a better place. Never wait for other people to post something you want, you will need to actively post anything you want to see. If your board has a topic, never let your focus on the board prevent you from enjoying that topic. It's easy to become a metawhiner, but that isn't going to solve your problems.
