what's the best british newspaper and why?

 No.11

Private Eye

 No.12

whichever one aligns most closely to your own outlooks i suppose

 No.25

has to be the guardian, prove me wrong

 No.27

The Times.

 No.29

They are all terrible and that's coming from a country where the press is utter garbage.

The Grauniad is especially awful. At least others don't pretend they are even midbrow.

 No.44

Independent,telegraph and times

I went a bit autistic and bought a load of each to see which is the best and these are my rankings excluding financial and local papers.

1. The Daily Telegraph. No bullshit, every page and front page is full of words words words, no gay opinion shit, no filler news. Loads of content.
2. The Times. Like the Daily telegraph but less consistent in quality and a little filler.
3. The Independent. Good quality but little content, shame.
4. The Guardian. The worst of the best, it reports on actual news like the top three but has ridiculously bad opinion pieces and has some shit filler news. Front page is covered in ads and stupid shit like im reading the sun.

5-6. Daily Mail & Daily Express. Full of complete bullshit and are obsessed with immigrants, cancer etc with the sun tier headlines. But still somewhat readable. Cancerous readership that needs to be gassed.

7+ Every red top except the sun. Dont take themselves seriously, just magazines with news attached. Really boring and simple with huge pictures.

Last. The Sun. Pretends its serious like the daily mail does except its even worse quality and has no content.

So much this. Private Eye are the only journalists who do proper investigative research, including in to other newspapers.

 No.97

Private Eye is a magazine.

Splitting hairs, it's all we have left.

Although I would disagree slightly about the placement of the top three this is pretty much correct

 No.127

Eh. They're all a bit shit. I read the Indy and Telegraph usually, but I never take them too seriously and like to keep myself aware of their biases.

Private Eye's also good – not a newspaper, but does a better job than the fucking Guardian or Daily Mail or Express or whatever the fuck shit is popular now.

Telegraph for the articles, if you don't mind a bit of bias, and old people/baby boomers in the letters.
The cartoons are fairly witty, and topical.

Express for the cartoons. Calvin and Hobbes AND Dilbert.

Daily Mail for starting fires. Small sheets, plenty of it, ink doesn't rub off easily. It's not good for much else.

The Sun is surprisingly good, if you skip the celebrity bullshit and the ads. There's some good articles in there these days.

By far is the Metro, though. Can't beat it on value. A nice size to find on a train seat, just the right length to read on a journey into London. Witty, decent stories, not much bias, and it tells you where to go to get paid to whack off, or fuck bitches.
And where to rent whores.
Or become one!

Broadsheets

1. The Independent is my favourite of this list, I like it for reporting on actual news every day.

2. The Times seems okay, probably the most balanced newspaper IMO.

3. The Guardian is pretty shit although I do respect them for reporting on the NSA spying scandal when every other publication backed away with "muh national security".

4. The Telegraph is like the Mail's older and slightly more mature sibling, it's essentially pushing the same views, just with less sensationalism.

Tabloids

1. The i is excellent, a much more concise and cheaper version of The Independent, who'd have thought the best tabloid would be the cheapest?

2. I read The Sun for fun just to see what crap they're feeding to gullible idiots.

3. Daily Mail is terrible, constantly writing bullshit and trying to spark moral panic, they're like the SJWs of the right wing.

4. Daily Express is just a cheaper carbon copy of the Daily Mail, except even further right wing. Also, I find it quite poetic to see so often their headlines claiming the discovery of yet another "Alzheimer's Cure" because people with Alzheimer's won't remember seeing this same headline only 6 months ago. But if they're not praising the next best medicine for old people diseases, they're hammering on about how "extreme" the weather is going to be (which it rarely is) and they have a penchant for displaying temperatures in Fahrenheit (even though this is the UK) just so the numbers look bigger.

5. Daily Star is just a sleazier version of The Sun.

6. Daily Sport is even sleazier again, it's like someone decided Viz comics were a good philosophical foundation for a newspaper.

7. The Morning Star I've never read but it's quite obviously a socialist propaganda piece.

8. Daily Mirror is just absolutely disgusting, constantly licking Labour's rotten arsehole and grasping at straws to attack Tories. It is literally a propaganda paper for the Labour party. It is the WORST newspaper in the whole of the UK, I wouldn't even wipe my arse with it.

Not read The Independent in years. Switched over to The Guardian, but there commentary has got fucking ridiculous since they've gone online and crossed over with 'freelancers' (which read more like bloggers).

Will give another try.

Reuters and Private Eye have gotta be up there with the greats, but as for stuff like the independent… No thanks m8. Not unless they've got badass ethics policies.

I've been looking for newspapers that aren't owned by conglomerates and this is what my browser tabs look like so far:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tameside_Reporter
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archant
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnston_Press
>inb4 £130 million is still "conglomerate"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Worker
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Socialist_%28UK_newspaper%29
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Morning_Star

I might let you guys know when I've narrowed the list down to some newspapers that I really like the look of

 No.661
