Does /cats/ have any cats that can't meow? Mine doesn't. I assume it's because she came from a litter who's mother never learned, or that's what I've heard. She just kind of makes weird gasp/raspy noises instead. I think it just makes her cuter and adds character.

Second pic related: It's a bad picture from some years ago with her chilling out by part of my battlestation at the time.

That's fucking cute as hell. My cat never shuts up. He's hungry, meow. He's sleepy, meow. He wants to go outside, meow. I'm sleeping and not paying attention to him, meow. Absolutely nothing is happening, meow, meow, meow, meow….but I love him to death. He talks back when I meow at him :3

We had a cat like that! Its mother and all siblings could all meow!

I just think it's a very cute genetic mutation, that's all. Maybe the vocal chords or something didn't develop properly.

Just out of curiosity, what breed of cat is it? How long is the hair, and what colour is the fur, etc? Maybe we can see if there is a relation.

Actually, OP, I just googled it. There were some pretty worrying posts I read on the internet, so it might also be a good idea to take your kitty to the vet. You know, just in case.

My cat and I talk to each other like that too. Of course it's more like a series of rasping squeaks than anything, but it's cute.

Long hair calico, I believe. White, brown, and some black. The second picture is my cat, so maybe you can tell more from that.

She's going on 7 or 8 years now, I think. She's been to the vet a couple of times before and no problems from the lack of a meow-er. I should still take her to the vet soon anyway, but y'know. Money.

I had a cat that didn't like to meow. She could, but she almost never did it. But boy, could she purr! She sounded like a goddamn truck! We used to joke about her being a Mew

Does anyone know the reason behind why some cats can't meow?

My dad has a cat that squeaks rather than meows. She's adorable and despite being 2, she's incredibly small. I don't have a picture of her lanky ass right now though.

My old kitty, Angel, couldn't meow. She lived until she was almost 20 years old.

Because some just can't. Others meow at a pitch too high for humans. That squeak is sometimes part of that meow dropping back to the level of human hearing.
Cats only see blue and yellow, but can see in the UV spectrum. It helps them follow fluids, like blood and urine, from prey.
Cats also cannot identify their owners by sight. They are reliant on smell to recognize us.

I've got one cat that almost never meows. In fact, when we hear her make any noise, it's always a big deal. Everyone always rushes over to see what's wrong upon realizing it was her.
My other cat is a big ole fluffy fucker, but has a teeny meow. Either comes out as a squeak or a mew where his voice cracks. It'd be cute if he wasn't so damn vocal. He's always squeaking at us.
