Random matches generate a setup out of every possible role in the game where has pre made ones have set roles on the top that you can mouse over to see so you know exactly what roles are in the game

random does seem more luck based, then again it was "luck" that i was wiped out first, tho taking out the person who literally just joined their first game of the night seemed really mean spirited, or its me being a drama queen
