You'll see a fair amount of drama from specific pockets, but there's a lot of people who just like making costumes and showing off. I'd tell her to put on her big girl panties and stop trying to make her hobby a popularity contest.

Ugh, I'm on the flip side of this coin. I want to do a topless shoot, black and white, single light source, classy as fuck. But I have something specific in my mind's eye, and asking beautiful women if they want to do an artistic topless shoot is not something I particularly want to do.

Pretty much this. I go to cons, ask to take pictures, and when there's a group wanting a shoot, I offer to help out. As long as you can line up a good shot, and lead a group reasonably well, you can do really well. I was just at Anime Fusion in Minneapolis last October. I shot a bunch of TF2 cosplayers, had a blast, and then got caught flat footed when people started asking for business cards. I just do it for fun, and because I like taking pictures. I feel like I'm being pushed to go pro, even though it's just for fun for me.
