WIP cosplay
Hey all, I mainly lurk other boards, but figured I'd post here to show something I'm working on. I'm making a Latron Wraith from Warframe. Bought a 2x10 on Sunday and started sketching. By the end of sunday, I had a rough outline of the space between the stock and the grip done. I bought a wood rasp yesterday and started shaping the bottom of the grip and the round piece that connects the stock and grip.
I'll post here as I progress, but share your WIP! Let's get some activity back to this board.

Rockstar Wigs & Gothic Lolita wigs Price wtf??
What the hell is up with this wig company? I went to look at their wigs today & their Prices went up by $20 bucks. Their wigs aren't the best and there is no freaking way $89 for a hologram wig is worth it! Come on last week they were $69. I have old wigs and new wigs with their new fibers. The fibers are a lot worse than their old wigs compared side by side the new wigs feel like straw at the tips and are super shiny as hell. I don't see them lasting long with their prices going up like that. Even with a discount code that's too much. I was going to consider getting a hologram wig but not for that much! What's the deal with photographers?
Hi cgls,I have a friend who's a cosplayer and is also trying to become one of those cosplay photographers (like half of everyone else you know). In trying to simply make friends and become part of the "community", she's become really distraught at basically being ignored despite best efforts to be helpful: "I'll come to you, you can come here, I can help with your costume", etc., whatever. Generally just being nice and accommodating but being ignored as a result.
She became especially upset when she saw two semi-friends really hit it off and become besties as they both completely left her out (lol).
Now that's funny and all, and being only quasiweaboo and not a cosplayer, I'm only vaguely aware of the cosplay scene and all I really know is that people can get really catty and competitive; but how that would figure in here I have no idea.
So what's the deal? What do cosplayers want from photographers? And from each other? What would cause you to ignore or avoid somebody who is earnestly trying to be friends with your and your circle?

As cosplayers, be it casual or more dedicated, what is your opinion about kids? Do you like the attention you receive from them, or do you consider them a nuisance?
I have a pudgy luchador build, so I just like wearing a suit or some decent clothes and wear a luchador mask. That stare you get from children is adorable, and I try to get in character and tell them to stay in school and listen to their parents. Even older people seem genuinely giddy at times, like they were big fans as children.

Not sure if this warrants its own thread, but seeing as this board gets about as much activity as AM², I figure why not.
So I'm currently in the process of trying to build a cosplay of the Bullet Farmer from the new Mad Max movie, and so far I've got a bunch of disused military junk, belts and older leather pieces cobbled together, and am in the process of building his odd hat, using strips of leather cut out from a dirty old jacket. I've also ordered about 20 feet of fake bandoliers to use as the bullet belts, though I'll be sure to smother them in spraypaint and grime so that they don't end up looking too plastic.
I figure I'll just try and regularly post progress photos of the cosplay as I work on it, and ask some questions for problems as they pop up. Trying to get this whole thing wrapped up in time for AX.

ACen 2015 is over, so let's have a thread.
Seems like registration was managed better this year at the con, so the line waits weren't the 4-8 hours they've been in previous years, but they still fucked up badges for a ton of people regardless. Stuff that was supposed to be mailed wasn't. Some people who ordered adult badges got kid badges. People who paid for 3 day passes got one-day passes. 18 fucking years and they still don't have this shit figured out.
I didn't go to many events, but it seems like they were managing things better, but that seems to be because they outsourced many of their departments to other cons. The vidya, arcade, and board game rooms were all run by people from other cons, and it showed.. because they ran well.. Vidya room was crowded and wasted a lot of floorspace, though.. and they still can't figure out this bag check thing, so there will piles of shit all over the floor that should have gone on numbered shelves or something.
Jojo photoshoot was even more huge this year, so that was cool, but it seemed like there wasn't really any one series that dominated the convention this year. Not as many MLP, Homestuck, AoT, or any other overly popular shit. Not like previous years where you couldn't look in any direction without seeing a specific series being cosplayed.
It wasn't the worst ACen I've ever been to, but there's still room for improvement.

This is my first time posting anything to this board, bearing this in mind I hope you'll apolozise me if you think this thread doesn't belong here. It's just that it seemed to me that this board was the most fitting one for this kind of stuff.
Me meeting this beauty here dates back to last year when I attended the first cosplay event in my life, it was pretty much of a small one so I'd never expect to meet a person cosplaying as an unknown character as much as Teto Kasane is. Nevertheless she did pass me by twice during the event and I could be seen not being able to look away from her, I couldn't muster up the courage to speak to her the first time, but the second time I was able to ask her for a photo.
While it can be said that she's not that much of a beauty, I think that her redeeming quality lies with her cheerfulness. She really was lively and she made all the presents smile. I make this post because it seems to me that cosplay has become over the years a matter of just showing nice dresses while it should be noted that its first and foremost a work of acting, you act while you're dressed as the character of your choosing, trying to do an impression of it as faithful to the real thing as possible. Don't do cosplay if you just want to show off your skills at making dresses while not being able to even utter a word. It just ruins the character for the viewers. This being said this young lady did a very good job of making me want to listen to Teto songs on the trip back from the event.

Anyhow, it seems to me as though this whole "lolita must have strict rules or it's not lolita" thing is something that only exists among Western lolias, which kind of bothers me. I'm not saying that we can't laugh at itas for looking like retards, but Lolita has been feeling more conformist lately, which I feel deviates from the original purpose of the fashion (to stand out). I don't like how different trends pop up every few months, then fades into obscurity. There's always some print that everyone loves and must have, but I feel as though people want it more for social status. I miss the days when girls made their own lolita. Whenever I bring up that I feel lolita should be more about self expression rather than conforming to trends and getting your hands on whatever brand print is hot, I get yelled at because that's the sort of thing an ita would say.
Anyhow, the reason I like lolita is because I feel like it deviates from the hyper sex and drug culture that's trendy these days. It's modest, it borrows from the past, and yet it completely goes against the grain. What's your reason for liking lolita? I just get tired of the people who like it just because they "saw it somewhere and thought it was pretty". I probably sound like a douche, but, really? I think it's pretty, too, but it just feels so commercial and vapid to me.
It reminds me of how people "dress up as punks" sometimes because it looks cool without listening to the music or caring about punk in general. Punks usually hate these people, yet lolita seems to be made up of people like this. (Especially in the later years of the fashion)

Newbie advice
So I have done a couple cosplays now (Littlefinger and Jon Snow), both of which were well recieved. For my next cosplay I want to do Jack of Blades (a bit more ambitious). I just want to know what will produce the best results for the armour and mask. I'm not that stupid, I will have help from a much more experienced cosplayer for this so I don't think skill will be an issue.
What would a person have to do to make a decent looking Hive Tyrant costume? I have a rough idea for the schematics, but I'm hitting a roadblock with how to make a decent looking mask, and finding materials that can look like scales and chitin.
