I think the variations with bigger boards or more pieces are just delaying the real problem, which is opening theory.

If you want to a more complex game (something a machine can´t excel) we have Shogi and Go http://8ch.net/chess/res/43.html.

And for solving opening theory problem we already have 960 Chess (Fischer Chess), without changing board size nor pieces.

Anyway, Omega looks majestic and I would like to play some more games some day.

Could someone recommend sites to play or solving problems?

Having the board and pieces would be even better, but unless we made ourselves that will be harder I guess.
