ITT, we try and make a token post in this thread maximum of once per day if we happen to browse the board that day.

This helps us to get an idea of how many we are and tells us if we need to promote this board more. It also helps to foster a sense of community

I'm the OP of this thread >>1348

You could do that but this is more personal. Its more like a sense of "Howdy, watsup?"

Its for one of those days, when you browse the board but can't think something meaningful to post in any of the active threads.

Checking in.

Haven't posted anything in a few days, but I still lurk.

What do you guys think about using a trip?

I was thinking about using one for a number of reasons.

One reason is its easier to follow a conversation, and know that you are still talking to the same person.

Another reason is personal accountability.

I have a bad habit of turning into a jerk when I disagree with people.

Having a tripcode will help to make me more accountable for what I say.

The reason I ask your opinions is because there are some good reasons to always post anon.

One is once people read a few of your posts, they are likely to form an opinion about you.

They can then judge your posts based on that opinion.

The opinion can be good, or bad, the effect is always bad.

Tripfag x always posts bullshit, therefore everything he says is bullshit.

Alternatively Tripfag a knows what he is talking about, and we should believe everything he says.

In both of these examples the conclusion is false.

We should judge posts by the content, and not the poster.

Having a tripcode makes it possible for people to judge posts based on who it was that made them.

Anyways what do you guys think?

Should I keep the trip, or go back to posting anon?

I have never really often used my trip back on /christian/, however I want to start using it here for the most/all time.

If we want to have a community we should have identities.

Also I have experienced a rise in quality of my posts when I use it, since I am accountable for what I say as you said.

>They can then judge your posts based on that opinion.

>The opinion can be good, or bad, the effect is always bad.

I don't really think that judging posts should be our main aim here. I think that exchanging idea if people like them or not + forming a christian fellowship is the best we can do.

I still understand that not all people like using trips or tripusers but that's ok with me.

Just try what you like better or switch between the both

>>1708

>I don't really think that judging posts should be our main aim here

Nor do I, hence the semi-reluctant attitude towards using a trip.

I think the aim should be truth.

And that by the open exchange of ideas, we can discern truth.

Let me just give you an example of what I mean.

In the embedded video Richard Dawkins is shown for the fool he is. (my opinion)

Anyways, after hearing him talk in such a nonsensical way, I have lost all respect for him that I might have had.

As a result, I am likely to not give much credit to anything he says.

I am aware that he may very well be right about some particular topic, but my opinion of him discredits anything he might say.

I wouldn't say that he is always wrong, but I would say that I'm less likely to believe something just because he said it.

Even though I know this reasoning is false.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_fallacy

>Just try what you like better or switch between the both

Fair enough. I think I'll stick with the trip for a while, and see how it goes.

First of all this board is not full anon, if it were I would not have the option to put a name.

Secondly, if you read my other post, you will see that I came here for an "open exchange of ideas".

>>1710

>I think the aim should be truth.

>And that by the open exchange of ideas, we can discern truth.

I hate you.

I really do. I don't care if that makes me a murderer in God's eyes I still hate you. You've arrived at a place you don't understand and instead of learning about it or at least doing as Romans do, you haven't stopped at disregarding the unwritten law of the land but you actually have the audacity to proclaim yourself justified with reasoning that you've arrived at because of your inability to understand how the place works.

>I came here for an "open exchange of ideas".

You disregard some of the basics that constitute freedom of speech on imageboards so I'll have to assume you seek a different kind of "open exchange of ideas". Find yourself some kind of free thinker's forum or something.

If tripfagging was not allowed, it would not be possible.

>You disregard some of the basics that constitute freedom of speech on imageboards

How do you figure?

Does using a name limit my ability to post?

No.

Well then my freedom of speech is preserved.

As is yours.

If you could explain why it is using a name is bad, I'd be happy to consider not using it.

But if your just butthurt at the sight of a tripfag, I have no sympathy for you.

>Find yourself some kind of free thinker's forum or something.

What happened to that freedom of speech you were talking about?

It seems to me that you are trying to limit my free speech so that it does not apply to this board.

Also

Do you really think that this board needs less people?

>>1729

>If tripfagging was not allowed, it would not be possible

How is it that I was able to learn what tripcodes are for and you people can't?

Consult >>783 , the part that is of interest starts with ">Enlighten us on the proper function of tripfags".

>How do you figure?

I've already told you. You disagree with the basic principle of anonymity. Something everyone that comes to anonymous imageboards should be familiar with and accepting towards. There are actual reasons why some people want to talk with one anther anonymously. You've chosen not to, which is absolutely ok, but this is not the place for it.

>If you could explain why it is using a name is bad, I'd be happy to consider not using it.

The thing is I shouldn't have to.

I could go into detail on the advantages of posting without identity but this is not really a matter of argument as in "let's debate whether anonymity is good or detrimental to discussion".

You've purposefully came to an anonymous imageboard, a place where people go to for anonymous discussion and you don't want that so I'm asking why. Why would you wanna go to a top hat wearers convention wearing a fucking bowler hat?

>What happened to that freedom of speech you were talking about?

What are you trying to say? Have I censored you or have I pointed out that your interests are conflicting with some basic ideas of how discussion is to be conducted around here and this is not about content but about indentity.

>It seems to me that you are trying to limit my free speech so that it does not apply to this board.

Already explained.

>Do you really think that this board needs less people?

If the survival of this board relies on tripfaggotry then it's better dead so is 8chan in general if it's survival must come at the cost of plebbitors dilluting board culture beyond recognition.

Also your image is unrelated. It's not about Anonymous disliking things. It's about you not agreeing on some basic principles of conversation that everyone under Anonymous username has agreed to.

I'm sure there are other places that are more suited to your vision of how discussion is to be done and you should find yourself such a community, not attempt to change this.

 No.1737

>>1736

The problem you have is that people can do what they want to and don't care for your sacred rules since they do not exist.

>a place where people go to for anonymous discussion

People can come here for whatever they want.

> It's about you not agreeing on some basic principles of conversation that everyone under Anonymous username has agreed to.

Never did that. No one has to do that to come here. People will use imageboards like they want unless they are prohibited from it.

>you should find yourself such a community, not attempt to change this.

The community here is just coming into existance right now, no one knows how it will become.

So it is not changing a community but making a new one where everyone is welcome.

>>1737

>The problem you have is that people can do what they want to and don't care for your sacred rules since they do not exist.

It's a really simple concepts to tacle.

Let's go back to the top hat convention.

Let's say each time about one or two bowler hat wearers come by because they like the tea that's served at the event. No point in setting up guards, it's free event after all, it's easier to simply ignore them.

Now let's say more bowler hats begin to show up at the convention and the noumbers are reaching about a third of the participants, it's not longer possible to just ignore them.

Fuckers have their own conventions all year round in every major city in the country and yet they come to top hat convention nevertheless. Fuck your bowler hats, what about top hat convention you don't understand? If you want to be at a fucking top hat convention bring a fucking top hat. If you don't like top hats but you love our tea so fucking much it's not like it's only served here, you can easily get it wherever.

>Never did that. No one has to do that to come here.

What's the point of you coming to a top hat convention if you don't give a shit about top hats?

>The community here is just coming into existance right now, no one knows how it will become.

We're at christian discussion corner at a top hat convention. It's a fresh corner and it's specific intricacies are not yet crystallized but it's still a top hat convention.

>So it is not changing a community

It is for fuck's sake.

>but making a new one where everyone is welcome.

As long as they bring their top hats then… maybe? Just because the event is free for all doesn't mean that the regular participants have to be welcoming towards all manner of faggotry.

Checking in. Good Day all

On a Christian note, been browsing through the scriptures for good quotes these past few days.

On a personal note, just began cleaning my mess of a room. The cleaner my room gets the less shittier I feel. There is something about a clean room that clears up thinking processes and in general reduces irritability

 No.2009

Checking in, sorry I haven't been very active lately, I haven't really been home.

Did you guys enjoy the holiday weekend?

I know I sure did.

I had an extra long weekend, I was off from Friday evening, till today.

I had enough time to go visit my dad, and spend time with my friends.

 No.2281

From the looks of things so has everyone else.

Anyways checking in.

I'm bout to be finished backing up my files, so I can swap pc's.

Hopefully then I'll be able to watch videos again with out the sound going all crazy, and causing lag.

>>1756

>On a personal note, just began cleaning my mess of a room.

I need to do the same.

I'm going to have to get rid of some crap.

My room looks like I'm a hoarder.

I'm really not, I got some random things for some work, and I was intending to sell them.

I think I'll just give it to charity, not that I'm super generous or anything.

That's just easier than trying to sell it.

>The cleaner my room gets the less shittier I feel

I feel the same way about shaving.

If I don't shave for a few days, I start to feel like crap.

But as soon as I shave I feel like I'm ready to take on the world.

Also you stated in the OP that

>post in this thread maximum of once per day

But then go on to say

>It also helps to foster a sense of community

Couldn't we just use this thread as general discussion, and not try to limit posting to once a day?

I like the idea of a general discussion thread where we can talk about things that don't pertain to any specific thread, or that might not merit a new thread.

I think that might better help promote a sense of community.

But if you don't like that idea, I can always just make a general discussion thread.

 No.2289

Same. I think this applies to all guys who don't grow a beard.

>Couldn't we just use this thread as general discussion, and not try to limit posting to once a day?

Sure.

My idea behind this thread was that sometimes when you visit this board and have nothing specific to say on any of the other threads, you could post in this thread as means of giving an UIP and also creating a sense of activity. Sometimes people tend to go into prolonged browse board. They like the content but won't post because they can't think of anything to post. This thread is there for that.
