There are things we aren't aware of, such as the meaning of numbers for Hebrew authors. You cannot read anything from the Bible without a clear understanding of these concepts and knowledge of the original tongues.

For instance, this evangelist removed some generations and added others to get to the number 42, divided by three, 14, and etc. The author knew about the facts but the symbology here mattered more and illustrated a point that had little to do with precise facts.

We can't read such ancient texts without their context, or we won't understand anything; same with Genesis, all the more so.

Read it like a dream, since it's a myth (a myth is a story that explains your situation in the world) and Genesis was clearly not written by God or under the dictator of God (God doesn't think the world is a half bubble surrounded by infinite waters, as Genesis would have it).

The inclusion of one book such as Genesis doesn't undermine anything in the New Testament, however. Each book of the Bible is its own book, never forget.
