>I think you're exagerrating.
The phenomenon I am referring to is, in my own extensive experience (I lived in an incredibly Judaic state for years), unique to Jewery. Ethnic and Religious identity are so intermixed in Judaism that it is not uncommon for people to consider themselves "Jewish" despite being atheists, or cherry-picking dogma. Its the difference between being culturally Jewish and religiously jewish, its the difference between being Jewish or just a Jew. Christianity breaks that up fiercely, you can't be a Jew and accept Christ in the eyes of the Jewish community, as you pointed out with the saddest creatures on Earth: messianic Jews.
>The same goes for Christians.
Christianity has no inherent ethnic component like Judaism/Jewery, so it can't be compared. A cultural Christian is just an atheist with no balls to be honest with his family.
>There's nothing you can do that causes you to lose your jew status forever. You can always come back.
There's no objective standard for this, because it all depends on what "The community" decides, whether that's your family, your friends, your Rabbi, whatever. That said, if you publicly reject Christ you're essentially a Jew again, damnation and all.
