Anybody else /methodist/ here?

 No.4421

Not to my knowledge, but I've been interested in understanding what makes Methodism stand out.

Are you a Methodist?

 No.4497

I've seen the flag used once.

What is a Methodist exactly?

 No.4809

Bump.

 No.4810

My father's side is a long ling of methodists.

Essentially they're just mild mannered protestants. Emphasis on simple kindness and christian charity. As a group they don't care about rigid doctrine or hierarchies or whatever else. One of the more accepting denominations.

Into the trash it goes.

Sorry it tooke me so long to respond. OP here. I am a Methodist, yes. AME. I'm white, but the AME church still holds to doctrines that the UMC has fallen away from.

Methodists, Wesleyans, and Nazarenes base their theology off of the teachings of Charles and John Wesley. Typically, they are Arminians, historically against debauchery, and put a strong focus on charity.

Why is this important for a Church?

>>5187

> I'm white, but the AME church still holds to doctrines that the UMC has fallen away from.

Why is it called African Church? What is the white:negro ratio ?

UMC?

>UMC?

* What practices has the UMC fallen away from?

 No.5211

>>5199

>Why is this important for a church?

It's important because at the time of the church's founding, slave revolts and revolutions were a very serious threat to the church's standing. It was basically calling for the separation of church and state and reminding its members that they are not above the law of their nation.

>Why is it called African

Because it was founded by bishops of African descent. It is not started from Africa, nor is it only for Africans. I can't tell you the white:black ratio, but it is majority black. White people have been part of the church since its creation, though.

>UMC?

The UMC has become increasingly liberalized today. Not to the point of the PCUSA or anything like that, but noticeably more than where it started from.

 No.5269

My village has both a Methodist and Anglican church and the two do a joint Sunday service once a month. So I have a lot of contact with Methodists.
