God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are three distinct entities that; through a process and state that eludes all human understanding; can co-eternally and simultaneously exist as one single being.

A very important part of this belief is to understand and accept that you're never going to truly get it, you can't. its a Mystery, one of them.

Maybe your computer can't process the font. It reads "Explain Trinity to a non-believer in one minute".

Why should he?

Nice to have, but no one should be discouraged from starting discussions as matters stand by now.

This. Aristotle's logic (the square implies the triangle) is a good simplification of what the trinity means.

 No.8589

the part i don't get is how the Father, son and spirit are all meant to be exactly equal

what is the spirit? does it have a face, like a man? because the son has a man's face, and i think the father has a man's face. can a thing without a face really be equal to something with a face?

The sign of the cross itself + john 1 tells you what you need to know about the nature of the trinity's persons.

When you sign the cross, you touch your head and say "in the name of the father"…that is, the mind of god, the source of his reason, the seat of his agency, his magesterial property. God the mind, god the father, god the ruler.

you touch your heart and say "and of the son", knowing the son to be the logos, the spoken agency of god, the source of all things in motion ala Aquinas' argument, and thus the central blood pump of your body which is the source of your own vitality. God the source of life, god the logos.

And then you touch your arms saying "and of the holy spirit". God in action. God made manifest. The god who comes to peter in visions and tells him to kill and eat. The god who, through the very use of our hands, produces the good works born of faith. God the source of action, god the source of inspiration.

As for having a "face" – only the son had a face, as only he became flesh.

>can a thing without a face really be equal to something with a face?

wtf are you, some sort of tribal pygmy? yes, faces are a status symbol mtumbo.

as a Gnostic, allow me baptize you in the putrescent waters of knowledge:

the trinity symbolizes the path to divine ascendance (rapture) of the human spirit.

It's source is kabbalistic but it's been condensed to by-pass the schizo bullshit of jewish talmudism.

The Father is Kether (the source, the crown) which is the seat of creation/fires of Empyrean.

The Son is Malkuth (the root, creation, the world of mortals) which is the state of the mortal soul after the "fall".

These two absolutes are separated by the Holy Spirit, which even in the bible it comes to the faithful in many different forms, but always carrying the same message.

The point being, in order to attain divine providence, focus on the message rather than the form it comes in (something jews have trouble differentiating).

First question:

What is God?

God is agape, truth, logos, life, the way, etc. Once you understand what God is, it is easier to understand how three can be one.

Christ is God

The father is God

The Holy Spirit is God

All are the truth, are all agape, truth, logos, the way, and life. But, there cannot be two definitions of truth, there cannot by two ways, or two definitions of life because, otherwise, it would be better to have two words for it.

Thus, there can be no contradiction between the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is simultaneously God, our truth, our way, our life, and our logos.

When someone asks a Christian: "Is that the truth?" It's the same as asking "Would Christ believe that?" and "Does that comport with what I know of the Holy Spirit?" and, "would the Father approve?" all at once. Of course, none of us know Christ perfectly which is why we have friendly debates about it.

Does this help anyone? I've been dwelling on this a bit and this is how I've finally come to understand it.

Anybody else feel like the Trinity sign should be a popular Christian image like the fish and cross?
