Give it a minute. Since you've chosen Catholic, I'm sure one of our residents will stop by to advice you soon enough.

If you are dead set on Catholic, just go to a church that's close to where you live. Maybe you'll actually meet some people that live near you.

Or you could just join the one true Church established by Jesus. :^)

>i'm actually going to go to church this week.

Good decision.

>how do you pick one

Are you from an urban area or the countryside? If you are from the countryside just attend your local Church.

In an urban area it is not really important. Just try one that is close to you, if you like it, stay there.

If not you can try several Churches and stay where you like it best.

Ideally Church is also a social activity and you bring yourself into the community, helping with stuff etc

In the Church there is the ordinary mass and then the latin mass tridentine or traditional mass Ordinary mass is in your local language while tridentine is… well in latin ;^)

If you are interested in the tridentine mass you can ask here look up the FSSP, the fraternity of Saint Peter. It is a brotherhood of traditional and generally more conservative priests.

Then the important question: Are you baptised Catholic? This is important for further advise of how to be part of the Church.

If anything is unclear or you still have further questions feel free to ask.

Maybe BO can help you too, he was in a similar situation a couple of months ago

Hopefully.

Its taking longer than I thought, so I'll throw out my two cents.

Since you've chosen Catholic, the most important thing about a church, meaning the particular parish, is that its actually in communion with the Holy See. I think you're unlikely to run across a group of people claiming to be in full communion with the Pope when they actually aren't, but that's what I've hard.

Other than that, it would be a matter of personal choice. You may go to a parish that is ethnically consistent with your own race or nationality, or you can choose to ignore that. You may choose to attend what many of 8chan's Catholics call "Novus Ordo" mass; meaning mass that has abandoned some or many traditional practices in order to attract more members, while still being doctrinal correct. Conversely, you may choose to go to an SSPX gathering if you fancy the more conservative strain.

There's other important things to note too. Are you baptized Catholic? Iirc, you may not be able to participate fully if you are not, though I could be incorrect. Depending on how long its been since you've last been to mass (if ever), you will need to go to confession. Scratch that, actually, you will most definitely need to go to confession as being a Fedora in and of itself is a mortal sin.

I'd say you must simply have the chutzpah to go to church, and from there you can speak to the priest and simply follow all the advice and guidelines that they give you.

Nice repeating numerals brother.

The catechism, this is its very purpose. Just look up some topics you are interested in for the start. It is rather good.

And here the website of opus dei, available in like every language with a great amount of info:

I'm sorry

SSPX is the only real controversy I'm aware of. But that's too deep for beginner I think.

>>6579

> Iirc, you may not be able to participate fully if you are not, though I could be incorrect.

You are excluded from communion (eucharist) if not. If you are not baptised you are still to attend mass. But contact the priest afterwards so that your initiation can get started.

> Depending on how long its been since you've last been to mass (if ever), you will need to go to confession. Scratch that, actually, you will most definitely need to go to confession as being a Fedora in and of itself is a mortal sin.

Confession is never a bad idea. Essentially even missing mass is worthy of confession.

Indeed. Starting new things is hard. But everything is hard before it becomes easy, and probably you get the opportunity to like it and make friends :^)

Once a tripfag, always a tripfag though, in my experience. Just when you think that you're out, I've pulled you back in.

>and i've learned language before so it'd be doable

There are missals. Speaking Latin is not required at all.But not bad of course.

>yeah i was baptized

Catholic? How many sacraments did you receive? Do you know if you are allowed to take the eucharist?

>how does confession work?

You go to a Church that holds confession, there a priest is waiting for you in a small chamber linked to a chamber right nect to it through a little opening. It has courtains or something so the priest cannot see you. You enter the chamber next to him and then confess. There some fix lines that you traditionally use but that's not really important.

In there you confess all your sins it is important that you do not leave any out knowingly and then the priest tells you how to repent.

It's no big deal, like not hard to do, but important and required at least once per year at easter.

Best is to just attend mass and afterwards talk to a priest or deacon or something that can help you better.

Do you believe in God or are you still an atheist?

>>6588

>I know that feel. Sorry for outing you.

No problem. I wanted to make a post about the refugee crisis anyway these days which would have outed me ;_;

An biased answer: do what my father did and visit all the churches that you can, learn from them.

Download Got Questions? On your phone or read the site, it can help you a lot.

Now, how do you visit a church? Just enterenter, be nor open nor closed, you're not stupid, instead , be honest
