What the constitution forbids is the meddling of Federal affairs in religious institutions, which is to say "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…(etc.)"
So basically, the Fed can't mess with religion, which was meant to protect Religious people from the government and now the Jews have flipped it on its head: to protect "the people" from Religions.
So this is why the State *can* and has make religious laws. Heck up until recently it wasn't illegal to have a law stipulating that you *had* to profess faith in "a God" in order to hold public office in several southern states.
>Federal law should trump state law in this case then.
This is what happens. Fed makes a law saying "All people are entitled to this". Doesn't mention religion, see just makes a blanket statement. Problem is, my religion (Let's call is the Church of /christ/) clearly states that having people do that aforementioned thing is immoral.
So now we have to either dismantle all our volunteering and ecclesiastical efforts or bend over and allow the Fed to enforce its "civil right" thing into our soft bodies. And all this without directly attacking our religion.
