Robespierre began the decline into progressivism that has never stopped since. He is the reason we worship democracy and equality, the two false gods of the modern age. The American revolution started some of these things, but the French pushed it down the hill. Remember, it took Napoleon to come in and stop the horrific reign of terror that Robespierre started and all democratic nations eventually lead to.
