Is there a reason why Pentecostals and other radical Evangelicals are so poorly represented - and more or less despised - on here and /christian/? I find it surprising, i thought they'd be a major presence, but it seems most here look down upon them.

 No.7893

I really find them neutral, as long as they arent tumblr like.

one of the hundreds of denoms in the US.

are you one of them?

 No.7899

Pentecostals are nuts

But most of them have busy social lives. Plus they'd be offended by anything on a chan.

 No.7904

/christian/ especially just seems to be the Catholic board now. Here you get a bit more of everything, which I like.

 No.7905

>>7899 But most of them have busy social lives.

The more i think of it, the more likely it seems that's the reason.

>>7899 Plus they'd be offended by anything on a chan.

But then why so many Catholics, and hardcore Muslims on /islam/ ?

 No.7906

>>7886

Evangelicals are the splinter group of the splinter group that was once part of the true church.

The web is world wide, not burgercentric. They are represented very well, but I realise that it must be a shock for ameritards that no one cares about them in the world.

> but it seems most here look down upon them.

This has practical reasons, one of them being that the important users on /christian/ know their theology and therefore despise them.

>>7899

> Plus they'd be offended by anything on a chan.

Indeed, I can't imagine puritan-like types staying for long on h8chan

>>7905

>But then why so many Catholics, and hardcore Muslims on /islam/ ?

Not sure why they shouldn't be here?

please. most people over there only follow catholicism because of the latin chants and pretty paintings. They barely know any theology, if they were sure knowledgeable about it, they wouldnt ban people when they point shit out.

There's a difference.

That's a different topic, and while I agree it is the wrong approach in this occassion, it is more complicated than that.

>>7923

Not sure how I could help that, sorry.

 No.8136

Regular pents are decent enough folks, if a bit pushy for my tastes (but they back off if I make it clear that I'm a trad Catholic), oneness pents are not Christians.

Yeah, go ahead and laugh when they're the ones raptured and you're the ones left.

because they're fucking idiots? is there really any other explanation needed? you're contending with a group of people famous for rolling on the floor like epileptics and shouting gibberish…

I really don't need to construct a 3 page polemic discussing the theological failings of these heretic's heretics, when the proof of why they should be avoided is sitting right there, rolling on the floor before me shouting "yabba dabba shaddabba doo" at me like a retarded flintstone.

Most of the comments above me should be ignored. Also thankfully Roman Catholics have flags so I can immediately ignore their posts.

I actually admire the Pentecostals. They have the highest conversion rate. Their style of worship, when they aren't have fits and rolling on the ground, really connects them with God.

It fills the supernatural element of religion.

So I admire them for that, and people are quick to judge them.

But their success shows. I know Pentecostals that aren't insane.

> Their style of worship

Nothing is as beautiful as a pente "mass", sure pal

>But their success shows.

? Roman Catholicism or Sunni it is then.

>>8147

Why would the author not care about his book?

Roman Catholicism is dying. Let's not get meming here pal.

I am not a Pentecostal.

Also why do you have the Protestant icon?

 No.8165

>Roman Catholicism is dying. Let's not get meming here pal.

In fact it has been growing so far? Especially in Africa, America and Asia.

>Also why do you have the Protestant icon?

Chi Rho is not a symbol of protestantism as far as I'm aware.

 No.8425

>>7886

I'd say it has a lot to do with their "speaking in tongues" stuff. I'm unable to say precisely what the cause is: it could truly be the Holy Spirit (my doubts are that it seems to be something that they do in their own churches instead of going out to benefit the world.)

It could be demonic influence (the problem with that argument is that there is that they do believe in God, are there to worship Him, and it is an honest expression of faith.)

Finally, it could just be mostly mundane, with people doing those things because they feel social pressure, or make a decision (conscious or unconscious) to behave in such a way. (My problem with that argument is that it's purely materialistic, and that just because I've never felt the Holy Spirit in such a way, doesn't mean that it's the same for all.)

My other reason for looking down on them, ( I'm ashamed to admit,) is that I find the actions of those who're "overflowing with the Holy Spirit" to be unseemly. I will also admit that I am biased towards high church ritual, liturgy, and somberness. It's a case of spiritual pride on my part, so I avoid judging them for that. Finally, while they worship in a way I disagree with, they do earnestly worship the Lord.

Chi Rho is an old East Roman symbol, I believe it was Justinian (or maybe constantine) who saw Christ in his dream and he was told to put Christ's symbol, the Chi Rho, on his soldier's shields and they would win all battles.
