Nah. There's a sealed portion that was never translated, so they definitely have to come back either during the second coming of Jesus or sometime before.

I can understand that from a human perspective, but why from the perspective of a God?

I can see where you're coming from if you're saying, yeah, I'm immortal but I still have to deal with all this petty human shit, feeling sad about people I love dying or the world changing in ways I dislike. But, if you're a God, why would that be a problem? If there is anything that makes you unhappy in your immortal existence, you just change it, instantly, and then the problem is resolved.

What obstacle could be, logically, so grand and fundamentally negative that; possessing large amounts or infinite capability and power, one would choose to simply not exist in order to avoid it?

Yeah I see what you're saying. I've always been disturbed with the idea of eternity as there can't be any task or goal which is going to sustain your interest forever. I suppose being a God I could just make myself satisfied but still I have trouble envisioning how a god would spend his time. Existence would eventually become unbelievably dreary and pestilent.

I'm sure you could find a way to ensure this doesn't happen, having infinite power and all that, or at least a lot of it. Making a race of sentient beings to delight and amuse might be one way.

I think its all relative. A sentient dog might look at your lifespan and say "Wow, what a life, how can they bare it? Just day in and day out, eating and pooping and occasionally fucking, which is great for 10-15 years but 100? Fuck that." I think humans would feel differently.

Reminds me of this great comic, "Preacher". In it, Judeo-Christian god starts a war in heaven and some serious shit on earth because he wanted to manufacture conditions for people to choose to love him, despite him being able to just force them to love him or at least make it easy on them to believe in him. He goes out of his way to cause all this suffering so that the love would be all the more satisfying, and entertaining. The show will likely be shit

If I actually wanted to live forever I wouldn't deny it. In fact you see this argument from atheists all the time. That people are only Christians or religious in general because they're scared of dying.

No really, I genuinely believe living forever would be quite awful after a while. I'm not opposed to a much longer lifespan, one I could end at any time, but that's the kicker. If I was forced to exist for all eternity it would be a nightmare. At least from my current perspective.

I'm willing to accept the possibility that heaven is so unimaginably wonderful or that being a god is great enough to want to exist for eternity. Just from where I'm standing I don't get the appeal.
