Ask a Buddhist anything

Why Buddhism? What convinced you?

 No.9243

>Why buddhism?

I was always interested in the question "who am I?" and Buddhism offered a way to investigate this question systematically. I was also interested in stress & anxiety relief and Buddhism is essentially all about overcoming stress/suffering in its various forms.

>what convinced you

Seemed reasonable so I gave it a try; the more I practiced the better I felt and the more convinced I became that it is beneficial. So I keep practicing.

So the practice of Buddhism engenders belief in what it teaches in terms of spirituality?

What kind of Buddhism do you practice? It seems like there are a lot of heavens and hells and spirits and stories like that. Do you believe in this as well?

>So the practice of Buddhism engenders belief in what it teaches in terms of spirituality?

The practice itself builds confidence in what the Buddha taught but that doesn't mean you have to accept every point automatically. Beliefs about heaven & hell realms are not strict dogmas, like in Christianity. At first I thought nothing of them, but my understanding of reality and what we are has changed since I first started. Rebirth seems intuitive to me at this point.

>What kind of Buddhism do you practice?

Theravada

I just looked at the straw poll and realized most of the people here are buddhist

http://strawpoll.me/4241320/r

good stuff

That's old as fuck. There needs to be a new one because the demographics have changed drastically since that was made.

>23% Roman Catholic

>64 votes, 15 cathbros, 13 buddhists

>"most"

failed math, didn't we buddhist?

 No.9274

Buddhism and Christianity aren't mutually exclusive. I voted Catholic but I still practice buddhism. So its not surprising most of is here are buddhist in a way

and according to that poll, even adding EVERY Catholic into the Buddhist column still fails to reach 50%

Just acknowledge your stupidity and we can all move on

you don't have to reach 50% to be the largest group among lesser minorities

Subtracting you -the only confirmed catholic-buddhist- there are still two more votes for Roman Catholic than there are for Buddhist. Therefore there are more catholics than buddhists, which means that buddhism is not the most popular choice which means that most people are not buddhist. Furthermore, catholic is just a sect of christianity and adding together all christian sects gives Christianity a total of 61%.

You stupid nigger.

you're taking this too literally bro, relax.

point is, Buddhists form a substantial chunk of the people here.

It's good to see people searching for Truth in the Darkness.

Again, like I said, your little squabble was and is pointless because that poll is old as balls. No one can demonstrate how many Buddhists are actually here until a new poll is made.

I'm inclined to speculate the number is 1 or 2 just from the lack of posts in general.

we're all buddhists now
