I know we're not the majority on 4chan, 8chan, or anywhere, but I know we exist.
All of us who were born again from 4chan culture, whether from /v/, /pol/, /int/, or wherever. We made it, and found what we were looking from from those places.
This board is for things related to Christianity, like fellowship, prayer requests, etc. Questions by non-believers are welcome but obvious trolling is not welcome.
God bless you all.

Don't call myself Christian as I'm just full of doubts and degeneracy but I'm really interested in Catholicism. Their theology is pretty amazing and well worth the read, thinkers like Augustine and Aquinas are some of the most influential in the West.
Anybody with some familiarity with Aristotle should read Aquinas, he's really something.
f42b4b No.14
>>13I'm not really the biggest fan of Catholicism, but discussion of it is welcome here.
Being full of doubt is something normal and not new. While Catholics do have a lot of literature, I feel they don't teach the grace of God alone, and mix works in with salvation. They don't stress the concept of being born-again, something that happened to me.
They have contributed a lot to philosophy in the past, something I used to be really focused on before I was born-again but called myself a Christian.

>>14I tend to disagree with sola fide and see the Catholic and Orthodox understanding as more sensible.
While we're at thst, I'd advise you edit the sticky so it isn't completely biased towards Protestants. Denominational differences are an interesting topic to me but the board should be for generally any Nicene Christian I'd say.
f42b4b No.16
>>15Noted. I'll work on that, I'll probably end up having the sticky be more arguments for the gospel and the existence of God. Not that that saves anyone, but it breaks down the barriers, so to speak, of God and Christianity being impossible.

Since it seems like there is a decent amount of interest here I was wondering if we should have a banner thread or just post some in this thread since it seems like we have one and new ones wouldn't hurt and could give it some more character and help increase the post count for /christian/.
I think board is a good idea as long as it doesn't lead us to self segregation so that we stop /pol/ threads or other site wide posts. Good idea Alex.
f42b4b No.83

While it's true that they believe heresies and fall to have the fullness of Christ in their teachings, they are still at least nominally Christian, and discussion with them might help them to see the flaws in their beliefs.
Just a question though. Feel free to flog me for daring to challenge authority, it's quite understandable.

>>119https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MLry6Cn_D4Arianism is a quintessentially anti-Christian message, more of an adoption of Greek philosophy than anything else. "Before there was, there was not," presupposes that Christ is the greatest of God's creatures, and therefore it is a creature living a perfect life to "save" all other creatures. Inevitably, it will be reduced to the ideal that Christ's crucification is an existential call for us to live perfect lives, sacrificing ourselves to get to heaven. Very man centered rather than God-centered at the core.

Hey board owner, I made some custom CSS stylesheets for /christian/.
http://pastebin.com/pRe9SksVThere are four stylesheets because there are six major liturgical seasons (Gaudete Sunday makes seven, but I didn't include that), with Advent and Lent sharing colors as well as Christmas and Easter. The thought was that the board could have a stylesheet that corresponds with the liturgical season we're in at all times.
If you want to test them out before adding them to the board, add them to your User CSS in Options. I don't know if your denomination uses liturgical seasons, so if you do decide to use these, we're in Ordinary Time right now.
If the board owner decides he doesn't want to use these but you still want them, copypaste one into your User CSS.

I am not ignorant of the fact that a significant portion of my brethren are a bunch of abhorrently retarded puritanical pencildicks.
I am indeed VERY well aware of that ugly truth. And it does bother me, a lot. But for the last 2 1/2 years my faith has been subjected the chivalrous and euphoric, yet unfortunately friend-zoned fedora-atheist onslaught at the hands of YouTube, Reddit and 4-chan, and the cruel, unyielding bombardment of AGONIZINGLY CONDESCENDING CAPTION MEMES and FSM jokes that came with it. For 2 and a half years I have actively debated these people. After all those carpal tunnels. After all those times Google Chrome crashed while typing an 9-paragraph reddit thread. After all those Times I cried at the stupidity of people who ACTUALLY believed that Jesus was a Horus/Mithra/Krishna clone. After all the times I was told that I was "Not a real Christian/Scotsman" because I didn't fit into a little box of straw my opponents had prepared for me. After all that bullshit. That stress. That frustration. That dedication to evidence based discussion. Christ Won. And my faith is stronger than it's ever been in my life.
Now that that's over, we can finally talk about the Homosexual, Illuminati/NWO/Satanist/Monster Energy Drink=AntiChrist, white-slavery, neo-naziist, """"Theory""""-filled Agenda that Obama is forcing on us Gad feerin',

To answer your question, though:
this is the type of humor that a 16 year-old Christian on Reddit and 4-Chan must develop to survive. One must learn the ability to make fun of one's peers and view things an a nuanced manner. I realized most of my opponents were counting on me being anti-gay marriage, or a young-earth fundy, but most had no real responses to me as an individual, or my arguments for that matter. It seemed like they just googled up "how to easily and effectively beat X theist argument." and then copy pasted that into our discussion. the problem was, they often weren't even attacking MY arguments, they were attacking arguments that sounded vaguely similar to mine at best. I realized that a lot of Atheists percieve Christianity as a monolith. So they were ignorant of any viewpoints within the church that one might have other than the ones they learned in Sunday School.
I stayed a Christian because the Evidence invokes a creator of the Universe

You also learn that there's dipshits on every side. The euphoric, the militant, even the angstheist.
Somewhere along the road, I realized that people will say shit just to rile people up. Trolling in its purest form. Like that one 3-column picture with all sorts of "religion disproving" shit was by and large the result of complete ignorance and inability to google or read the Bible in the first place. When you see someone repeatedly use logical fallacies against you, laugh and walk away.
A lot of that shit is like tumblr, where people don't really believe what they post. No one takes tumblr or internet atheists seriously. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. I'm sure you people deal with this question a lot, so I won't make a new thread to ask it.
How is it possible to believe that something exists if there's no evidence whatsoever that it does? How can you reconcile the undeniable power of the scientific method with this unquestioning belief?
Clearly, there are scientists who do it.
I ask mostly because it puzzles me how these seemingly contradictory attitudes exist in a place like 8chan. When I see something as logically inconsistent as this it bothers me and I can't help but question it.
Is there a wiki or something which addresses these points? I don't feel like getting into another internet religion v. atheism debate.
1ab281 No.41787
>>41772>How is it possible to believe that something exists if there's no evidence whatsoever that it does?Let me rephrase this to
>Only things which have evidence should be believed inNow apply that thought to itself and watch it collapse. Congratulations, you've taken your first step out of blind worship of rationalism.
Here's some metaphysical problems to ponder:
>The problem of unity(bradley's regress)>The problem of causation>The is-ought problem>The problem of motion (calculus does not solve zeno's paradox)>The problem of knowledge>The various problems of eliminative materialism>The hard problem of consciousness>The problem of being and what being isNone of these questions fall under the purview of science, yet science assumes some sort of answer to all of them. Now tell me, if one cannot apply the scientific method to a belief, then what good is evidence in evaluating its truth?
I'd also recommend learning Godel's incompleteness theorems to hard bound logic in case you begin to think that proof justifies everything.
Science is a tool for giving models which can approximate reality, not a real explanation of anything. Nor does it purport to be.
eb38e8 No.41960
>>41787>Only things which have evidence should be believed inOkay I don't think that I explained this well enough, because when my friend tells me she had a good day at work I don't ask for evidence. I believe her without asking for evidence, because what she says fits within the framework of reality as I know it. I know that she exists, that the day exists, that work exists, etc. All of this makes sense enough that I don't question it, but if she tells me she shook hands with E.T. I'll need some photos or something.
As a general rule, I follow a weaker version of that thought.
>Things and ideas which fit inside the framework of reality as I understand it may be accepted because the framework has been proven sturdy in the face of constant challenge. If a thing or idea doesn't fit, evidence must prove that my previous understanding of reality was flawed. That's my method for deciding which ideas are worth accepting, and I'm interested to hear yours. Central to my methodology is a belief in logic as a tool for understanding reality-even logic itself.
Which is making my head hurt not gonna lie. Holy fuck I need to get some sleep, I'm going pretty deep for such a late hour. It's good mental exercise though. Maybe I'll sign up for some philosophy classes for this spring.
>science assumes some sort of answer to all of them
>science is a tool for giving models which can approximate reality, not a real explanation of anything. Nor does it purport to be.Aren't these mutually contradictory? Maybe I'm just not following here. I understand that science is a tool for proving things about reality. As a tool, though, it has produced far better results than faith.
I read the wikipedia articles about a few of those paradoxes. It's clear we don't understand everything about the underlying logic of reality, and it very well could be that the universe isn't as rational as I think it is- but I don't see how an irrational universe presents a danger to my above statement.

The reason I mentioned a prayer rope with at least 300 knots and the Jesus Prayer to that anon is because having to say it 300 times or more gives you a chance to connect with God long enough to feel.
I think maybe if you aren't entirely sure how to pray and you have trouble concentrating and you don't pray for very long at a time. I think it all makes it hard to feel God's presence.
Jesus Prayer is valuable for all Christians, I think, but it's especially valuable at the beginning of your journey helping you to become accustomed to prayer.

In fact I have an idea: I have a demon inside since birth, it is a demon, it does supernatural shit every now and then, it is not an illness and any claim of illness will have to come accompanied with biological evidence that it is indeed an illness.
But even if it were an illness it would be the same because believers would be able to either expel the demon or make the illness go away by hand imposition.

When I talk to God, I speak to Him as if to myself, in my head. I talk about anything and everything, and sure, He doesn't answer all the time, but he also doesn't drop faith on me like a magic blanket. Faith comes from within. The belief in a higher power or the desire for belief in a higher power starts you on the path. But actual salvation comes from Christ. Speak to Him like you speak to your closest friend, the one who you hold nothing back from. He can be your greatest friend because you may trust him implicitly without fear or favour.
In the end though, it is like the Good Book says, "Where two or more gather in My name, there I will also be"
So while you can speak to God and Christ within yourself, to fulfill the desires of your soul you must also gather with others of like mind for prayer and praise of God.

Not exactly. The Anglican Church is, historically speaking, a thoroughly Protestant church. They retained bishops (although not valid orders, according to Catholic judgment). The Thirty-Nine Articles, their chief confessional document, is a Calvinist creed.
http://www.eskimo.com/~lhowell/bcp1662/articles/articles.html
There were times when Anglican clergy we're not even allowed to wear vestments. That's how bad it was. Not that vestments are of primary importance, but its symptomatic of the nature of historical Anglicanism.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestments_controversy
The sort of Anglicans you are an outgrowth of the Anglo-Catholic movement, which was a nineteenth-century development (consider that Anglicanism itself started in the sixteenth century), and they are a very small minority of Anglicans. Taking these Anglicans as representative of Anglicanism would almost be like taking sedevecantists as representative of Catholicism or so-called "Messianic Judaism" as representative of Evangelical Protestantism. As a whole, Anglicanism is very much comparable to the other mainline Protestant denominations, also with a large more low-church, evangelical school.
Sure, there may be some in the broader Anglican tradition whose beliefs have moved closer to a more Catholic (or Eastern Orthodox) understanding, like the Anglican converts to Orthodoxy you mentioned, but they have never been a significant part of Anglicanism.

So far as I understand it, got decided to create angels. Then one angel decided that he was as good as god if not better. This led to a schism within the angels and half were cast out.
So after that god creates man, and then allows his other failed creation(fallen angels) to cause his newest creation(man) to go against his wishes(don't eat that fruit).
I have never understood this, is this just taken as part of God's plan and that he has his reasons? I was under the impression that the free-will of man was something that set us apart from angels.
Why would a perfect being go through such convoluted methods for us to reach this point of existence?

Thank you for replying, and I apologize for my badly written question(got god God? wtf my typing is terrible).
I guess the thing I just do not understand is that God created the angels that eventually became the fallen angels or devils. So why would God even allow the envy of Satan to bring evil into the world? I can understand that as a perfect and holy being, God could not create evil, but like in Job he allows it? I just cannot get my mind around why God would allow that evil to corrupt his creation of Adam and Eve. Why not just cast Satan into hell and be done with it?
I am not much of a theological scholar, so if you already answered these questions my apologies for continuing the discussion :/

I think this is the pdf of the King James Version of the Bible everyone was talking about.
Other online Bible resources are:
https://www.biblegateway.com
You can use it to read the Bible in countless translations, not limited to English, free of charge, and you can disable footnotes, cross-references and even verse numbers, so the Bible reads like any other book if you want to, which I find it useful 'cause all those tiny numbers and letters get in my face.
Free commentaries and much more on:
http://biblehub.com/commentaries/genesis/1-1.htm
You can use both sites to search for specific words, if you want a verse that talks about something.

About the Geneva Bible, the 'original study Bible', which introduced numbered chapters and verses, and which is the 2nd most popular ye olden Englishe Bible around, predating by 51 years the King James Bible…
I give you a free Patriot Edition of the 1599 Geneva Bible!
http://kirkcameron.com/free/
It's a 21.2 MB mammoth so I can't upload it directly here, all you have to do is go to the above link and click the same picture as pic related. Also the file is not bookmarked, unfortunately. Like I said, it is free of charge.
It has all the notes, all the thees and the thous, but it does have a few linguistic changes for accessibility, namely: http://pastebin.com/CAUEudC5
You're probably asking yourself why is it called Patriotic Edition, well it's so patriotic it also contains the following historical documents at the end:
The Magna Carta
The Mayflower Compact
The Declaration of Independence
The Articles of Confederation
The Constitution of the United States
Amendments to the U.S. Constitution
Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior
It also has a scan of the Bible and New Testament covers, "A Form of Prayer to be Used in Private Hours Every Morning and Evening" which apparently was included in the Geneva Bible back in the day, and the prayer of a certain George Washington.
If you think the formatting or the language changes are bad, there is an ongoing project here, where you can download each book of the Bible as a separate file, but it's a work in progress so not all OT books have the notes:
http://www.genevabible.org/Geneva.html
If all you want are the 1599 Geneva Bible study notes, you can browse them here:
http://www.reformedreader.org/gbn/en.htm
Finally you can read it here, with all the 'heauen' and 'vpon' experience:

I have a problem I don't know who to talk with so I try it here. I'm a lutheran Christian who used to go to church every sunday (I never did as a child, I read the entire bible and was truly converted that way). However I'm a very awkward/lonely and bitter man, had a tough life. I don't have any serious health condition or anything I just went lots of trouble and pain growing up.
Anyway I have a problem with Christian communities. I went to many even ones of other Christian branches but the problem seems to persist: the pastor always preaches about how we should give and give and give and stop being self-centered. The members of our community usually somehow always tell each other what awesome things they did and how good it is to help others and whatnot.
There's nothing bad with this the problem is just: I am a very generous person. I barely earn anything myself yet I almost always give money to beggars, some regularly. I don't care if one of those could be a gangmember or something. I just want to do as it is written: "Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.". I'm always there for the problems of my parents even though I have very good reasons to never visit them again. I never complain and I hate even mentioning it now. I don't have a problem with my ways I just have to make a point.
I do not need someone to tell me to give. Or to repent. My flesh disgusts me. I need someone who encourages me. Who gives something to ME and be it only an honest, gentle smile or even a warm greeting. I know that these people have no problems to smile - they do it all the time - why is it so hard to spare a smile for those who lack smiles?
Whenever there's a discussion I tend to have relatively rough views (not at all as I see it though). That's because nobody handed me anything and therefore I have problems to relate to e.g. problems of asylum-seeking refugess who have to live in small spaces. I've been there myself (not refugee but had to sleep in badly-run hostels for few months). As a consequence I receive bad looks that I don't feel I deserve.
In the churchyard there are always expensive cars and members always wear fine suits. I can understand that people who have more need to be told to give but I just can't fit in anywhere. Meanwhile I stopped going.
Sorry for this long text but I just had to get rid of these thoughts somewhere. Thanks for reading.
36986f No.166154
>>166149
Well church is only 1 hour a week. If you don't like it I don't see it doing a lot of damage to you. If the pastor just talks about money and never quite gets around to teaching GOD's word than that is a problem, you are probably not gaining much from it.
I think you would enjoy a deeper study in GOD's word. Listen to what the saints say about bible verses, ready commentary. The saints are smart and full of the spirit. Study under a teacher who will help you read GOD's word with understanding. Because understanding is important.
If people do not like you or smile at you then thats a good sign. Its the stamp of your Christian profession.
Don't give money to gang members give your money to genuine homeless or down on their luck people. $1 means the world to them as you pass buy on the street.
You don't expect anything back but that does not mean you are not going to get anything back. "Throw your bread upon the waters. It will return to you in many days." This is a very true statement & honestly the process is fascinating.
Does any of this help?

I'm not meaning to attack Christianity here. Many good none bigotted Christians have contributed society in immeasurable ways. Men such as Father Damien, to surprisingly enough Jack Kerouac and J.R.R. Tolkien. From scientist to actors, saints to politicians and even civil rights leaders. Still it's hard to say that these men were more Christian than many Nazi collaborators were.
You have to take the good with the bad. You can't just dismiss those who did bad as none Christian. You can't excommunicate the dead, any more than you can convert and baptize them.
If the majority of people who speak English are Christians, it's only logical to assume that an English language board would be dominated by Christians.

The burden of proof is on those suggesting the ridiculous notion that Jews would be oh so accepting of foreign idolatrous bullshit as religious dogma. Both Testaments do nothing but condemn pagan idolatry over and over again.

Its said to be truly persuasive you should assume the character of the speaker to be perfect and to attack only the nature and content of what hes says, what he does and what he believes.
Suggesting your opponent isn't an intellectual means you certainly aren't either because you lack the capacity to win the arguments by doing the above.
So to dismiss most atheist figure heads as tryhard edgy manbaby entertainers is to say I am too stupid to disassemble the fallacies and falsehoods in their poorly constructed arguments, regardless of whether its true or not.

And to clear a lot of this up, yes, zeitgeist is horse shit. None of those 4 gods in that infographic are pagan Gods though, one is an egyptian God, 2 are Hindu Gods and the last is a Greek man of legend. Pagan Gods refers to the Gods of the Celts and sometimes to those of the Gauls. The Celts didn't worship idols, I don't know enough about the Gauls to comment.
It wasn't the Jews that bought Christianity to Europe, it was the Romans, and they were very good at adopting elements of the cultures they conquered, religion included.

It's ok, anon. In the original Greek of Revelation, the number of the beast is 616, not 666 as previously thought.
Get with the times.

You're mis-translating the concept of "three-score" as a few people do. The term is "six three-score and six". Some think a score is ten years, but it's twenty. When Abraham Lincoln said "four score and seven years ago", he meant 87 years ago. Not 47.
Simple multiplication.

I came here mid Jan for the first time this year and found I was banned before posting anything for something I had nothing to do with. Not only that but a whole range seemed to be banned. Its not a good feeling when you need help. Thankfully I made it this far.

Can we disable tor? People are shitposting about tor users being shills or whatever; I'd kind of like to shut them up.

Being a Christian is becoming more dangerous around the world. There are places where the one of the few ways to access Christian material is through TOR. Disabling it might make this site easier to manage but I don’t think the benefit really outweighs the negative aspects.

El Camino de Santiago is pretty big nowadays. It's in Northern Spain, the most popular route leads from the French-Spanish border to Santiago de Compostela, where St. James the apostle is buried. That's about 780 km, aka 485 miles. Though you can take shorter routes if you want to.

I've made some mistakes; I've made a lot of mistakes to be honest.
Is there someway to reconnect with God and Jesus after years of fuck ups? I used to be a Catholic when I was a kid, but I ended up losing my way and forgot everything about it. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or at least a general direction to start in?

Well, you know, you are still catholic and it is really easy to get back. Get a catechism, read up on what is forbidden, reflect on your past and make an appointment to go to confession. In the mean time: go to mass (but do not receive communion until you have confessed). Easter is a good time to get back.
