I thought it would be interesting to see which English Bible translations people on /christian/ prefer.

The list comes from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_Bible_translations#Complete_Bibles

I just realised several options are missing from the poll. Hold on, looking into it.

NEW LINK

http://poal.me/csveau

First, I think some of my regexps were overly greedy and trashed a few entries that I think people would miss. Second, it seems poal.me silently cuts off after 100 options, so here are the ones that didn't make it:

>ArtScroll Tanakh (Old Testament)

>Judaica Press Tanakh (Old Testament).

>The Living Torah and The Living Nach. Tanakh (Old Testament)

>Jewish Publication Society of America Version Tanakh (Old Testament)

>New Jewish Publication Society of America Version. Tanakh (Old Testament)

>Leeser Bible, Tanakh (Old Testament)

I don't know what they are doing in a list of complete Bibles if they only have the OT anyway.

I prefer the Orthodox Study bible. Septuagint + Majority text NT ftw, Judaizers please leave.

I guess the NKJV is the closest thing to that on the list. (Large sections of the OSB come from the NKJV).

See http://poal.me/csveau

The Orthodox Study Bible went missing on the first attempt.

I've been using the NET for two years now. There's a lot to like.

I use the Orthodox Study Bible as well.

>Knox bible

Filthy heretic here. I've been reading an old KJV I inherited from my great grandfather but it's a bit of a struggle to read. The Geneva bible also pretty good but the pdf I've been reading has the notes and comments in line (and often halfway through sentences) which is horrible. I'd have preferred it to be like the Shakespeare books from school with the text on the right hand page and the notes on the left. And don't get me started on the nightmare that is the Fontana Good News Bible. It's like someone just put the original greek through google translate.

Anyway, the Knox bible is really well written. I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy.

I wouldn't call you filthy.

Yeah the publisher is this company right here

https://www.baroniuspress.com/book.php?wid=56&bid=60#tab=tab-1

you can buy it there. I would look at the sample page just so you know that it's set up like a regular book and not like columns. It also comes with that booklet On Englishing the Bible which gives his thoughts about what it was like translating the Bible and his translating philosophy. Interesting stuff

>having great-grandpappy's ol' KJV Bible

That's incredably cool that you have that, I hope it continues to stay in your family for generations to come.

I am sorry about this. It's too late for this to matter now, but for future reference I have increased the maximum answer count on poal.me from 100 to 400.

Glad to see some ESVs out there

I use the 84 NIV occasionally

And I pull out my KJV when I see some nuance with the English translations
