What does /christian/ think of the concept of terraforming? Would it be a commendable and useful thing for humanity to do or would it be playing God/a second Tower of Babel?

I personally think it's a pretty good idea since we were never commanded to quit multiplying and it'd give space for extra people in the future if we start sooner rather than later.

Interesting, though it's more of an exercise in pride for many. But it could be useful, since we would need to learn how to make efficient, recyclable, in the first place to do so, which would benefit us here.

Also, Mars would be a pain in the ass, since it's a low G, frozen, irradiated desert.

Venus is closer, as big as us, and has cloud cover.

Simple as proping a baloon with earth atmosphere.

But i guess if you don't stick a flag in the ground like a conquistador, it doesn't count.

>playing God

that would require we create something from nothing; humans have always transformed environments, transformation is perfectly legal….but creating out of nothing is illegal and frowned upon.

>that would require we create something from nothing;

I don't think it works that way("if you want a pie from scatch…" and all that). Besides, it would be too expensive. You'd just transform substances present on those planets.

I was referring to the idea that terraforming has any relation to "playing God" — it doesn't.

Humans can't play God even if they wanted to. All we can do is transform stuff, so terraforming is fine, and has nothing to do with Christianity.

You could even call agriculture 'playing God'. Nothing wrong with terraforming if humanity lasts that long. If the population gets big enough on earth that would be the only way to prevent war for resources and mass starvation. I have a feeling the end may come before that though.

>venus

I'm no whiz when it comes to this sort of stuff, but isn't venus' surface over 400 °C?
