i think if they truly repent their sins they're forgiven i may be wrong though

but if you know of your sins but didn't feel ashamed of them you're screwed. The issue i see is what happens if someone was never taught what a sin was?….

also how does one know if he is repentant? is it the visceral sensation you feel once you realize the error of your ways, which is all well on paper but how do you atone for a sin too? are there levels of sin e.g. theft < adultery

No "sinner's prayer", no long list of sins and asking forgiveness, nor any of the other trappings and ceremonies the "church" has added over the centuries. He recognized his Lord as death came for him, and he was welcomed.
