I'm always pretty skeptical about these sorts of claims. Most of the "awful things the church did" during the Counter-Reformation and the Crusades tend to be exaggerated and sometimes fabricated.

Besides, if two atheists kill 40 million people between them most people nobody draws any conclusions, but if a single christian does anything immoral, "the church did it".

And Tyndale's, Coverdale's, Matthew's, Taverner's, The Great Bible, The Geneva Bible and the Bishop's Bible predate the Douay-Rheims. The Catholics were only forced to release their own version of the Bible for commoners to read because the protestants were already doing it. They would've been happier keeping everyone in the dark.

No. Those are not synonymous.

The recent popes all now agreed with the local languages being used.

Obviously the Apostles did agree as they sent their letters in Greek, the lingua franca of the time.

It is the most important part of Vatican 2.

As much I hate the church of Rome Bible back then were written by hand. The material, the amount of hours taken to write it made the production of a Bible very costly.

Since most of the educated people spoke Latin and the church had made the Vulgate in Latin it was a waste of time to give it to laity who only spoke in their own tongue.

Bibles were stolen and so it became an issue. The printing press made it affordable to buy and also basic supply and demand meant people wanted a Bible but also one in their own language. So people who were willing to pay a small fortune for it so they could get the Bible in their own language.

The matter of Latin mass is an entirely different issue. Even before Luther translated the Bible there was the Mentel Bible based off the Vulgate.
