It's actually an innate feature of signs. They can be interpreted in a number of ways.
Words signify different things to different people. Some people use "love" to signify a feeling.
Others, to signify a pattern of behavior, as translators do in rendering 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
They're not all the same thing because they share a word in common. That's equivocation.
"Love" isn't an "emotion". It's a word, and in the Christian tradition, it's often used to refer to the highest virtue, charity.
