This always striked me as one of the more stupid things in protestantism.

Sola fide, or faith alone, says that everybody who genuinly believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of God is completely saved with 100% certainity.

Yet, YET, if a catholic believes in Jesus Christ, they aren't saved because they also believe that they got to be good human beings.

Not only does it contradict sola fide (you'll probably say it doesn't, and give your own swung on it as all protties do) but it also shows the huge hypocricy of it all.

>Sola fide is an easy way out, except for the people I hate.

That's what it was, what it is, and what it always shall be.

Works is just human effort. If you think salvation takes no human effort what the fuck are you trying to accomplish in this thread?

If its all a gift of god just sit back and wait to be mind controlled…

>hurrr but u have to accept the gift

Acceptance implies work/effort . it implies you did something to save yourself, a form of work. It gives u something to boast about

Because, if you believe you have to be the greatest person on earth as requirement to be saved then you aren't putting genuine trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. You think you can buy your way into heaven just like the Jews.

Why doesn't Catholic-chan have more art?

>if you believe you have to be the greatest person on earth as requirement to be saved

Except nobody believes that and you know nobody believes that

For some reason there's this fiction that presumes a false either/or dichotomy when there can be a both/and situation in play. Take the Two Great Commandments for example:

>Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

>And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

>— Matthew 22:35-40

We can't focus so much on the first commandment to the exclusion of the second commandment, and we can't focus so much on the second commandment to the exclusion of the first commandment. We must strive to follow these two commandments simultaneously which the dual use formula of faith and good works achieves.

Then again, some protestants actually believe it but instead has the good works portion absorbed into the faith portion (basically synchronizing two variables into a single variable) and then argues on the semantics.
