How is Jesus the son of David like Matthew says he is in Matthew 1? How is the "genealogy of Jesus" not just the genealogy of Joseph, who isn't even Jesus's father?

It's like saying you are descendant of a particularly special person in your family line to show a preeminence. He is the legal heir to the thrown of the God of Israel thru David, thru Solomon.
