How do/did we justify crusades using the Bible?

c9fd22 No.399638

You don't, it was purely political. Thank God for Luther.

c0aa65 No.399639

So we just have to let Christians and Christian lands be plundered and persecuted?

God willed it

>How do/did we justify crusades using the Bible?

Church has divine authority and self-defense is not a sin

Hell is hot

c9fd22 No.399645

>reclaim holy land

>s-self defense

Wow you don't even hear yourself. Hell is indeed hot, why are you shilling for politicians?

>reclaim holy land

They were defensive wars, to protect christians from islamic terror

a36e2b No.399649

many unjust acts were commited by crusaders, but the justification I suppose would be that driving out our enemies saved many innocent people as the crusades originally were defensive. The crusades also secured the future of Christendom by stopping false religions from becoming too strong in Christian lands.

Christians were being brutally killed in constantinople as well

c9fd22 No.399737

By your logic any war is justified so long as it brings Christianity to wherever you conquer. This is pathetic, I can't believe you post with that flag while defending the power-hungry and corrupt clergy that slaughtered millions for nothing.

c9fd22 No.399738

By the way, I think it's really funny that the OP specifically asks to use the Bible to justify the conquest of the holy land and not a single person can do it. If some black breaks into your house, do you kill him and be done with it or do you launch an invasion force into Africa?

>Muslims take over almost all of the known world for hundreds of years, raping, pillaging, all sorts of evil acts

>no end in sight

>finally decide to fight back to protect the lives of Christians and retake once Christian lands

>called evil for doing so in modern day

You're giving a crappy analogy, libtard

>black guy breaks into house and steals TV

>he break in again and steals your computer

>does it again and takes some jewelry

>tries to break in again, but this time you rough him up and not let him take anything, drive to his house, and take back just the TV.

>inb4 turn the other cheak

Christ was talking about if someone does something small to you, it's probably not worth fighting over, like how a slap on the cheek was just something people did back then to show dominance. The point is that a slap on the cheek is different from raping and pillaging

>What are 1 and 2 Maccabees

>What is Joshua

>What is any instance of Holy War in Bible

Loving you enemies does not mean that you do not protect others, Church and does not fight with enemies of God himself. Read Augustine.

c9fd22 No.399773

Well you ignored both of my points and responded with a false equivalency, congrats you idiot. Get some reading comprehension, I can't believe you can read KJV and you can't read a simple post on 8chan, although given the fact that you can't back up your retarded political war with anything from the Bible makes me question whether you have ever read it at all. Grow anyone who thinks the crusades were justified is just a racist edgekid or they worship the clergy.

"“You shall love your neighbour as yourself ” (Mk 12:31). Consequently, no one can renounce the right to self-defence out of lack of love for life or for self. This can only be done in virtue of a heroic love which deepens and transfigures the love of self into a radical self-offering, according to the spirit of the Gospel Beatitudes (cf. Mt 5:38-40). The sublime example of this self-offering is the Lord Jesus himself. Moreover, “legitimate defence can be not only a right but a grave duty for someone responsible for another’s life, the common good of the family or of the State”. [The quotation is from # 2265 in the first edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.] Unfortunately it happens that the need to render the aggressor incapable of causing harm sometimes involves taking his life. In this case, the fatal outcome is attributable to the aggressor whose action brought it about, even though he may not be morally responsible because of a lack of the use of reason."

Out of pure curiosity, are you a Christian?

Also why are you a communist?
