Pope during Easter vigil: Reject 'glitter of wealth'…

Encouraging the faithful, Francis said: “Why not prefer Jesus, the true light, to the glitter of wealth, career, pride and pleasure?”

VATICAN CITY — At an Easter vigil in St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Francis on Saturday encouraged people to resist cynicism or pursuing the “glitter of wealth,” and to avoid seeking life’s meaning in “things that pass away.” “Do not bury hope!” Francis exclaimed, after noting that when things go badly, “we lose heart and come to believe that death is stronger than life.” “We become cynical, negative and despondent,” Francis added. For Christians, Easter is a day of joy and hope, as they mark their belief that Jesus triumphed over death by resurrection following crucifixion. “Sin seduces; it promises things easy and quick, prosperity and success, but leaves behind only solitude and death,” the pope said. “Sin is looking for life among the dead, for the meaning of life in things that pass away.” Encouraging the faithful, Francis said: “Why not prefer Jesus, the true light, to the glitter of wealth, career, pride and pleasure?”

At the start of the ceremony on Easter’s eve, Francis, dressed in white robes, slowly carried a lit candle up the aisle of a darkened St. Peter’s Basilica. At the chant in Latin for “light of Christ, the basilica’s lights were suddenly switched on in a dramatic tradition. Arrayed before the steps of the altar was a row of cardinals, wearing ivory robes. Behind them in the pews sat diplomats with their spouses and thousands of rank-and-file Catholics, tourists and pilgrims among them. Among those in the basilica were eight adults who were baptized by the pope during the Mass. The Vatican said these new faithful are from Italy, Albania, Ecuador, Indonesia and Peru. From a shell-shaped silver dish, Francis poured holy water over the bowed heads of the three men and five women, after they walked up to him, one by one, and listened to him calling their first names. On Sunday, Francis celebrates Easter Mass in late morning in St. Peter’s Square and gives a speech from the basilica balcony. Known by its Latin name “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and to the world), the speech is an occasion to reflect on the world’s war-ravaged and other tense spots while paying tribute to Catholics’ practicing their faith sometimes in the face of persecution or other difficulties.

I’m all for being humble and whatnot but I feel Francis has allowed his perceived humility to become a vanity

>The same lambo that was used in an auction where all the proceeds were given to charity.

Seems pretty cool to me.

It's plain advertising to the very "glitter of wealth" he denounces, and he puts the Catholic Church in this scheme by doing this.

Except it's not.

>Lamborghini literally donates a quarter-million dollar car to the Vatican.

>Vatican than in turn auctions off the car to the highest bidder and than gives all the proceeds to charity.

>in return highest bidder gets a nice car and helps the restoration efforts of villages on the Nineveh Plain in Iraq, assisting victims of human trafficking, and missionary work in Africa.

Thats alot more charity work than I'm sure you will ever do in your life time. Stop purposefully twisting the Pope's words and actions just because you hate Jesus' decision to set up the Papacy.

I'm Catholic, but this is advertisement. It might not be a conscious one but it still is.

Why do you think that they gave the car to the pope and made it an event? Because they are Catholics who want to help the world ?

Of course not, it's brand publicity and forging a good image…Do you know what marketing even is ?

>im a catholic

What does it matter if Lambo gets free publicity out of it? They are still doing a literal good for people.

>What does it matter if Lambo gets free publicity out of it?

Because it promotes the very "glitter of wealth" that the pope denounced himself, spreading the very same he says he rejects. This is being an "useful idiot" (no offense)

fd00eb  No.799924

Except it doesnt. The glitter of wealth is greed. Paying 4 times the market price on a car, knowing the proceeds go to charity is the exact opposite of greed

They didn't give the Lambo to the Pope. He signed it to sell it for charity.

Guys, say what you want. I'm upset the Pope didn't autograph a Tesla model S, especially given Tesla cars are greener than Lambos

You just gotta secure more funding Elon than maybe you'll be able to make a profit so you can actually donate a Telsa for charity.
